Hi! I'm using some XP instead of Vista on my laptop and I have noticed some problems operating .dll files on it. I haven't tried Vista out on the laptop - uninstalled when it has arrived immediately. Well, when I'm installing something, or copying any .dll files (it might be even an archived file) the OS seems to be overloaded with it. Even if it's a couple of bytes file, processor goes to 100% and system's kinda freezing =o. The only thing I can think about is the Dual-Core'd Turion which has no proper support for WinXP. Your opinions?

open the task manager,, set it to the PROCESSES tab,, then do a file copy to recreate the problem,, see which process is hogging all the CPU time...

    and report back...
you may even try googeling the process responsibile for the CPU usage,,, you may get a clue as to what is happening by doing that,,

    just my 1.5 cent,

I'm extracting some .rar archive containing some .dll of about 200 kb weight. 61% progress stuck, current system processor loading is 0-2% due to Foobar2000 running, I guess.

sounds like a corrupt .rar file or a problem w/ your WINRAR installation

i'd try downloading WINRAR and reinstalling,, if that doesn't help
check the .rar file.... not sure how you verify integrity of a RAR file... i use ZIPs mainly,,, and use 7zip to do my compress/expand

but you are not having the 100% cpu utiliztion you mentioned in your first post??

you may wanna post this or ask a mod to move this thread to the WINDOWS forum,,, it is a windows issue... not exclusive to acers,,, and since more people check that forum you are more likely to get a positive answer in that forum than you are here...

to ask a mod to move your thread,,, just click the red triangle next to the green online indicator at the bottom of this post.

    later,
    bigO
