I just got my new laptop which is as the title states an ASUS F3KA, it came with Vista Premium but since I plan on gaming on it, I want to downgrade my laptop to XP Professional. However, I'm having trouble locating drivers for the laptop components. So far I've only found the video card but I need to find the rest of them. I'd like to know what drivers I should look for and where I might find them. Here is the link to the laptop so posters can have a reference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834220202 Thanks in advance to the posters that help me out.

Hey, I'm going to have the exact same problem. : ) I just ordered the same laptop as you, I think it will be a good one, (I mostly bought it for price, and it's potential as a gaming laptop).
However, it's the Vista that's getting me down as well!
I've done some searching, and happily, I've come across some accounts of people having success with installing XP on the F3KA from ASUS!
However, there is a catch. They say they are successful, but they often do not list how!
I will look for the different methods I have come across, and re-post them here.
Could you tell me more about what you have accomplished thus far?
i) What version of XP are you installing?
ii) What drivers have you found thus far?
iii) Links to the drivers! : )
Thanks much, and hopefully I can get this to work.
(I've got a crack staff of technicians working on it...a friends roomate and I).

This can be done, however, I couldn't get OpenGL working on XP, and i have stumbled upon few people with the same problem with F3Ka. Definately something to do with XP and HD2600 not working correctly with each other, since I just installed Vista back to my F3Ka, OpenGL rendering works fine.
It has something to do with OpenGL part of the Cat's not installing properly, so maybe you could just copy and replace the files, but I couldn't be arsed to do that every time I update.
If you are not playing any OpenGL games ('cause absolutely nada will work), go ahead. There is some thread in the ASUS' own forums which have every driver you need to get F3Ka to work in XP.

I know this is an old thread but i would like everyone to know that I am one of the happy few with the F3KA that runs xp on it. Its drivers are 99%. All the drivers work without errors but the sound card is the only one with the flaw[using realtek hd audio, is there a better driver out there?]. When you try to use the environment effect, it gets all muffled and distorted. Other than that. it runs great..... even with the Open GL which alot of people seem to have a problem running.
With both video cards properly installed [which not many people know about.], you can actually get pretty good graphics from the Radeon HD 2600..... but its a little trick in getting windows to see it as a desktop card and not a laptop card. I wish I could show you the original OpenGL Geometry Benchmark but i didnt save the file before I benched it again so it saved over the file when I was complete. Now that i think of it, I am going to download a more advanced OGL benchmarking program right after i kick some booty in Overlord.
Oh and heres the kicker that gets alot of people. Even pick up a game that you wanted forever.... or something like that..... and look at the requirements for the video. YOu get that happy feeling when you see that your lappy can handle..... BUT! You, then, see those words.... Game cannot be played on integrated graphics cards. Thats a kick in the Jewels if I dont say so myself. The Asus F3KA, F3kE, and the others that i do not know has this setup will allow you to play those games with no hassle at all. Not many understand that the HD 2600 is a dedicated graphics card. Which is awesome by my standards. It has its own memory so it does not use system memory so it doesnt bog down the pc whatsoever. In actuality, its like a plug and play graphics card. The only downfall to this card is that it reads the memory wrong. That I do not know much about but mine shows a gig or memory. Anywho, going to do some Overlord-ing before work. If anyone has any questions or suggestions for this ranter feel free to email me. just put -Re: Asus F3KA: Working XP Driversdown for the emails name. below is the OGL Geo Bench from my pc. Later all of you vets Aand newbs in the community.
