now this is a strange one.
never had a problem until logging on today.
last night i loaded nvidia beta drivers ready for battlefield 3 and this is the only thing ive updated in ages.
today i turn on and at the log on screen i usually have the option to either use password or swipe finger.
well the swipe finger icon is not there anymore.
i tried repair of software but nothing changed.
downloaded software again ready to reinstall.
checked in control panel biometric devices. says its enrolled working normally.
in change biometric settings it is ticked on and also ticked allow user to log onto windows using fingerprints.
reboot and still no swipe option.
in all folders clicking on authentec brings up the swipe option and lets me open the software with finger but only for the option of setting up fingers for websites.
deleted software and reloaded it and still the same. fingers are still enrolled so somewhere they are still being stored in the memory even though i totally deleted the software.
now this is where it gets even stranger.
gone back into biometric settings and turned it off. rebooted and on start up the icon is back but of course switched off so it cant be used.
used password and logged in. turned software back on and then rebooted again and low and behold the swipe icon has gone again from opening screen.
ARGHHH!
any ideas on what im missing?
also went to the authentec website and it looks like its defunked. no support anymore and no mod or tech help on their forum.
would it be simple enough to change the software to protector suite QL which i have on my other clevo that has always worked perfectly for the last 7 years.

Quite Strange indeed. I never activated Authentec, but now I am considering just uninstalling it since it seems they are no longer up and running. Good luck DJ, wish i knew something to help you out.

hi, i also have the AuthenTec finger print reader, mine is for a Macbook and it stopped working this morning. same situation as you described, the software is good, it just doesn't seem to find the sensor all of the sudden. I updated an app but not one that is remotely related to the fingerprint sensor and i haven't seen a software update that would invalidate the device so i'm confused..
Also, Apple actually bought AuthenTec last year which is why the company no longer seems to be up and running. They integrated the technology into the iPhone 5S home button but it was my understanding that the company would still be releasing driver updates.. hopefully at least..
edit: i bought two of the sensors initially and just tried with my spare. it works as the other one previously did, perhaps your sensor died like mine did... -
hi nurlip and welcome to nbr
its just confused the hell out of me as it was working fine until 2 days ago when i loaded the latest nvidia beta driver and now its gone from the opening log on windows page but if i turn the software off in control panel the icon appears after a reboot but cant be used as its turned off. turn it back on again and reboot and the icons gone again.
another strange thing is i deleted the whole reader software which also removed my keepsafe folder on desktop. i pannicked as i had a very important document in there so done a system restore and got it back. backed up the document and then deleted the whole software again. downloaded the fingerprint software from my supplier and loaded it again. same problem but when i open the suite in all programs to set up using it for website logins the swipe works and my fingerprints are still stored somehow. i would of thought loading the new software would of over written the previous stored fingers and i would have had to register again. -

it wont be a hardware problem.
its not a major problem if it doesnt work anymore or until i do a clean install again anyway.
just strange it disappeared immediately after the latest nvidia driver update. -
bumpety bump. any more suggestions
fully deleted the program today and wiped all the stored fingers.
loaded the program from new and re registered the fingers. its ticked to start up with windows login. but it doesnt.
the opening screen now only gives the option of entering a password. below that box used to be a switch user tab which change it to swipe finger but i have no idea how to get this back. -
Mr DJ, just a quick question here...In the UK is it not proper to capitalize the first letter of a sentence? I'm not being critical of your grammar and I enjoy reading your posts. Just wondering.

too much like hard work. it means lifting my left hand to press caps lock.
on forums i just dont bother with good old british grammar. who needs it when everyone still understands what im typing. -
done a few more system restores. before i updated to latest beta driver and before B4 beta was loaded.
none of it worked. log on still only gives option of typed password.
now this is the strange thing.
put to sleep and then woke and fingerprint option is there.
rebooted and only typed password. put to sleep and swipe is back.
my laptop is possessed
exorcised and re booted and on bootup finger swipe is finally back
hopefully case closed. but dont ask me how i fixed it -
I think it remembers what you last used. So on the logon screen, if the password field comes up, click switch user and then select the fingerprint logon. It should remember it the next time you log on. I don't know why that is, but it just happens that way for me.

that was the problem. the switch user button had gone. thats whats caused all the problems.
