I have one PC that is "on" all the time as it serves as my music server. The account that's running all the time is not an admin account for security reasons. I remotely manage that computer with TeamViewer but my problem is to have the computer automatically login to the non-admin account. I have heard that there used to be some kind of "fast boot" account which Windows would use by default. That does not seem to be available anymore, at least not in Vista Home that is running on that computer. The admin account is password-protected but the other account is not.

Is there a way to configure accounts (or whatever else) to have a computer automatically login to a given account after reboot (instead of just sitting at the login screen)?

do you mean using "control userpasswords2" where you can set it to auto-login as a specific user?

goofball / J&SinKTO, thanks for the info. It seems you are talking about the same feature. Wouldn't that process bypass having to use a password to get to the Admin account though? (Uncheck the box that says “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”)

not unless you specify that you are wanting the admin account to be the one that is auto-logged on.

Understood, thanks goofball. I picked the Standard user account for auto-log on and it is working. (although I get some kind of explorer error) As long as the password is still required to use the Admin account, I'm happy.
