I know of a lot of people who want to dual-boot but don't know how to so I just found this website and thought I should shared it with ya. I already tried it out with vista and xp and it was a breeze. It basically includes guides telling you how to...

    1. dual boot Linux and XP with Linux installed first
    2. dual boot Vista and XP with Vista installed first
    3. dual-boot Vista and Linux with Linux installed first
    4. dual-boot Vista and Linux with Vista installed first
    5. dual boot XP and Linux with XP installed first
    6. dual-boot Vista and XP with XP installed first
Mod Note: the above site has links on how to dual with with Windows 7.

    Enjoy!

No idea, send an e-mail to the mods, they will tell you how (I think you need their permission). You can even keep adding other scenarios later.

This is pretty nice, good to have around if you don't want to wait for the guys in the Linux forum to tell you how to Dual boot. But remember that if you're having problems you should go there for any Linux related problems/help.

Sorry to bring up a thread that's over 2 months old but I figured it to be more logical than creating another thread. I plan on installing Vista Ultimate (32bit) and then installing XP Pro (64bit). I intend on using Vista for everyday uses and the majority of things I do (32bit is needed to run the VPN client here on campus), but I'd like to have XP Pro there to play games and take advantage of my 4gb's of ram.

I read the proper tutorial and it makes sense to me and I'm sure I could handle it, however, I didn't see anything in there that allowed you to adjust how large a partition is. I have a 200gb HDD and I want to set aside ~120gb for vista and ~80 for xp. If this can be done, where in the process would I do it and how? Thanks!

One more thing, I can dual boot 32bit/64bit right?

    Thanks!

You can resize the partitions using GParted.
And yes, you can dual-boot Vista 32 and XP 64. Install XP first, and then vista, and vista should take over the boot-loader and add an entry for XP automatically. If it doesn't work that way, you can manually add an entry using EasyBCD.

Ok, so now I'm going to throw a curve ball at you guys. The VPN client for wireless internet here on campus only works with 32bit OS's. My intention was to use Vista 32bit for when I need the wireless and XP 64bit when I'm in my dorm and plugged in. I'm thinking about giving Vista 64bit one more shot, and that would require me to dual-boot Vista 32bit and 64bit. I assume it's possible, but how would I go about doing it? Or is it as easy as installing 64bit, using GParted to make the two partitions, and then installing 32bit on the second partition?

It should be that easy. Although you may need to use EasyBCD to get the boot loader properly configured. I used this method to get Vista Business 64, XP SP3 32, and Ubuntu 8.04 64 to boot with the Vista bootloader and TrueCrypt system encryption on my x200. You also may run into licensing issues and/or a WGA problem if you are using the same key for simultaneous 32 and 64 bit installs of Vista.

You should add some guides for Vista and Windows 7.
    But great guides though!

the problem i am having is vista is on the C drive. Windows xp pro is on the d drive(both of these are on their own drive with no added partitions to both).
i copied my xp pro cd to the harddrive even though i did keep getting the message so and so file could not be copied. I then slipstreamed the sata controller driver in to the os and created the iso and burned it to a bootable dvd. this is where i think the problem is because some of the files could not be copied (during the coping of the os cd to the computer to make the iso).
i dont have a external floppy drive and the computer will not pick up the sata controller driver on a usb thumb drive. when i install xp on to the d drive and get it up and running. i then install the .net framework 2.0 and then easybcd to the drive that has xp on it. is this where the problem is starting or is it because some of the files did not get copied to start with?
