Just wondering, what is the difference between the compatible mode and the enhanced mode for SATA in the bios? I know it is beneficial when running multiple drives in raid, but does it make a difference for notebooks? Any performance hits or benefits that I would miss out on if I switch to compatible mode and install windows xp?

just a guess,,, but i'd say compatible is IDE compatible
while enhanced uses more of the SATA commands and results in increased performance
the only time i can see any need for COMPATIBLE would be when trying to install XP on the laptop without having to mess w/ SLIPSTREAMING SATA DRIVERS using NLITE -
I have heard some people say installing XP in compatible mode will hinder performance, but I don't know if there is any truth to that. If you would rather install it while in SATA mode you will need to slipstream the RAID drivers into your install disc with a program called nLite ( http://www.nliteos.com/) as BigO said.
What's your laptop model? I'll point you to where to download the driver you will need. -
oh I know where the drivers are at... I was wondering if it was worth the hassle, but ty
