Today I installed my new Brother dcp-150c multi printer and right after the installation process I got an error "program can not display the message on the deskop" (sorry if the translation isn't the best). I have 2 possibilities "show it" or "remind later" when I pick show windows turns to win95-like view where I see only the error box "runtime error c:\windows\SMINST\BLService.exe" bla bla bla.. OK click and system turns to 'normal vista' again... The message pops up even when printer is unplugged (USB). I've spent all day an read many threads about this problem but it seams to be unsolved. People get the same message after installing printers or even HP Photosmart. M$ expert has written in one of the threads to go to msconfig and find the service that may cause the problem and simply turn it off... but hello if I turn off printer application it will become usless I think :/ or while printing the service will be temporarily turned on and message will show again - that's only my theory.
On Windows XP everything works fine w/ any BLService errors.
Please Help!

I am having a similar issue with my HP DV5t running Vista. I have a Canon printer. I chatted with HP tech support forever, and they had me disable a bunch of stuff in the startup with MSconfig. Didn't do me any good. I still don't know why I'm getting this error message.

I'm waiting for a msg from one guy at the moment. He wrote me that it's recovery problem and disabling one service in msconfing solves the problem. He just can't remember which service that was. I'll put the name here as soon as I get it
cheers -
so I've found the solution! there are two ways:
start-run-type "msconfig" then services and disable "recovery service for windows"
other way is to rename the blservice.exe to f.e. "blservice._exe" although system will try to find the correct file so it can slow down starting time. When you disable service, system simply stops searching for a file.
All I found is from that page:

(thanks for those people!)
I found all the people who wrote about issue on other forums right here.
it seams they've checked that disabling service is safe and cause no problems.
funny thing is that HP or printers manufacturers still can't figure out what's going on!
I recommend reading the thread I posted and enjoy!
PS hope that posting link to another forum won't charm any of moderators
all in all we must share infos and keep helping each other -
Thanks villu. I'll give it a try.
