I had to do a clean installation of Vista because for some reason my laptop began having problems. For instance the System Restoration utility stopped working, couldn't always play DVDs, etc. The previous system was also Vista and I had installed a clean copy using this website's guide to a clean installation. It worked fine for months, not a single BSOD, but after doing another clean installation of Vista yesterday, I've seen three BSODs.
This is the report from Windows:
I don't remember the message but I think I've seen it before but the problem was caused by a bad memory stick, which I had changed and the problem went away.
Is there a solution, I'm just half way through reinstalling all my programs and I don't know if I should do another clean install or if there's another way to fix this problem without having to format the computer again.
FYI: I did update all the drivers from the HP web site. I have a dv6700t 3gb.

Install SP1.

when exactly do you get the bsod?
can you post he contents of the dump file? -
-
How do I do that? I thought I had already installed it since I installed all the suggested software from the 'New updates available' icon in the system tray. I just checked again and none of the new updates seem to be SP1.
@nobscot6 How do I read the contents? Is it the dmp file above? I followed this instructions: link but I entered: cd c:\program files\debugging tools for windows and I got a 'can't find path' error. -
cheers ... -
Can't help you now but once you get your laptop in order may I suggest backing up your entire C drive to an external. I use Seagate DiscWizard (Acronis) which is free as long as one HDD is a Seagate. Otherwise, you'll have to buy Acronis True Image or perhaps try one on the free window software page.
No more time consuming fresh installs... -
Check if any of the issues/drivers here apply to you: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343#method5
If not, then use the Standalone updater: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&displaylang=en
If problems continue, you may also want to run a memory test.
You can also look at these instructions on debugging BSODs: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3439189&postcount=4
But... for now I'd just focus on getting SP1 installed. -
BTW, I appreciate y'all's help. -
SP1 did it
