I have an older Sony Vaio VGN-T250

Every time I physically move this laptop, I get the blue screen of death (BSOD). Every BSOD is slightly different, ranging from things like memory problems to page files, etc.

I've reinstalled XP and Vista and I continue to get this problem. The SMART rates my HD as 100% in performance and reliability, so I don't have any reason to think it's a faulty HD, unless SMART isn't picking it up.

I've also run MemTest - RAM is fine.

What other hardware could be causing this type of problem? Could something be loose on the motherboard?

Is everything seated well inside? It sounds like flakey physical connections to me.

It must be some physical part being jarred and disconnected when you move it. It might be the connector for the hard drive, an optical drive, it might be badly seated ram or something like that.

I've taken it apart and nothing is loose. MemTest passes, so I think the RAM is OK. I have the same problem even if I remove the extra RAM.

The HD passed all HD tests as well. So now I'm wondering if there's something faulty on the motherboard.

I'd send it back to the manufacture. Whatever is wrong with it, it probably isn't something software you can fix. This kind of crap is something I would not put up with.

My old computer had a problem like this and it was a worn mother board issue. One of the soldered pieces had come loose, so when it sat normally the connection was complete, but when I lifted it and flexed the body the component came up from the board and the connection was lost.

I couldn't fix the problem, so hopefully your notebook has some other easily correctable defect.

Problem is that's MemTest is not telling you if RAM is loose.

When did the problem start happening?
Since you mention 'extra RAM', I assume you installed more RAM on your system. Did the problem start happening before or after you did that?

Also, click Start, and on the search bar type eve and eventually you will see 'Event Viewer'. Click on it, and check Windows Logs. Look for errors that happened around the time you got a BSOD. It might be helpful to see exactly what's happening - even if all of the problems are different.

I had a similar problem with a 1st generation Centrino laptop (3-4 yrs old), it was the mainboard. I got it on ebay and luckily it had a warranty so they replaced the mainboard and it was fine.

Has your laptop been drinking?that would surely get it dizzy when moved and start BSODing all over the place.
