I have a computer that is running Windows XP Professional and I want to reinstall the operating system to get all the preinstalled junk off and to solve other issues.
The problem is that when I go to boot from the XP install CD, it gives me the BSOD. It loads up all the drivers and then says "starting windows". About 5 seconds later it crashes.
    This is the error message:
"Remove any newly installed hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sue it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and the restart your computer."
    STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D663C, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

The problem is that there is no disk /F. I have another hard drive that is has a partition on it that is F:, but that external hard drive was not plugged into the system. (and I safely ejected it prior to shutting down my computer when I was ready to install).

I have two different install disks (one of which I have not verified to see if it is actually good). The other one I have used before and it worked, so I'm not sure what is wrong.???

    Thanks...

"Run CHKDSK /F" means to run the chkdsk with sector repair option.

This message usually points to a failing hard drive.

Thanks, I changed the BIOS settings and that fixed the problem...(I also ran CHKDSK on F: and it seemed fine. I have successfully reinstalled XP.

Actually you can install AHCI Driver by installing it in IDE Mode restart set back to AHCI Mode and (for some setups) it will automatically convert to AHCI Mode.
