I am running 64-bit Vista on my HP dv7 laptop. For a few weeks now, whenever I put it in sleep mode, the computer gets locked (when I lift the top after the sleep mode it says : computer locked).
Now this week, when I lift the top to open the computer after sleep mode, I get a BSOD almost every time.
Any ideas?![]()

Run a memory test.
-
try new video drivers.
it's happened to me with some drivers -
How do I do that? How do I interpret the results?
-
Download memtest and run it. If you have memory problems, it will tell you.
-
Report the BSOD stop error number with all BSOD requests.
Also, many BSODs will report a specific file (error occured in xxxx.sys). Report that as well.
Finally, if that fails, look in c:\windows\minidmp and post the most recent file here and someone with debugging experience may take a look -
There is a power setting that controls if the computer is locked when coming out of sleep/hibernation. You might have accidentally changed it.
Do you have any external USB devices connected? -
Have you checked in the _HP forum? This sounds more like an _HP-specific issue than a Windows-specific issue.
Also, have you made sure you have all of the _HP updates installed, in particular the drivers for the chipset? -
probably video drivers since they are the ones controlling standby if im not mistaken
-
Any idea how I open that file? I tried all programs but none works.
-
I have a LaserJet 5L printer connected via USB.

This is for XP, but the steps should be about the same:

I had a BSOD with Vista64 coming out of sleep also, but only once in 2 weeks i have been using v64 , so i think it was just a 1 off.

Have you scanned for viruses and/or trojans and/or spyware recently?
-
Doesn't work for 64-bit.

Memtest runs from a boot disc. It doesn't run from within Windows. You can download a prebuilt ISO from here:
http://www.memtest.org/
Or you can download the original Memtest here:

Yeah, I just ran malwarebytes.

Vista has it`s own built in memory tester , just type memory into the start button search bar , but memtest86+ is the best.
