    Gidday guys.

Well, after much procrastinating, I went from Vista Business back to XP Pro. Before I did, I made a set of recovery discs. If, after the Vista service pack is released and it all settles down, I decide to run Vista again, can I just load my recovery discs, and boom, I'm back to Vista, then service pack it?

    Thanks and regards

What specific problems were you having with Vista Business? My aunt did not like it at all initially because it was "so damn slow". Over time, performance got better and she now finds it "acceptable". I guess that is the best I can hope for. ;) lol

SP1 should be released in January, and some of the fixes is for the slowness. On the other hand, Microsoft is still going to allow XP SP2 for sale until January of 2009. I suppose Vista SP2 will be ready by then, and then we will have something that we might want to migrate to. My new Dell Latitude came with Vista Business, and I downgraded to XP SP2 after about two weeks after frustration with the way file management and navigating changed.

Whoa, they pushed it back again?

I guess they may as well milk XP for all it's worth. It has definitely been a boon for Microsoft....

If you made your recovery disks by simply making an image of your drive with Vista, then yes, you should be able to just load the disks and restore your copy of Vista.

I dont think its pushed back that far. I think Microsoft has allowed OEM's to provide their computers with the option of Windows XP SP2 until June 30, 2008. By that time XP SP3 will come out, but thats intended for current XP users to just upgrade themselves through Automatic Updates. Vista SP1 should be out by that time too so it will start to take some market share. The thing is that Windows XP is such a good OS that I dont think Vista will be the dominant OS until like, maybe late 2008, probably sometime 2009 when everyone will have bought a newer computer.

Initially, Vista will be slow, with any new OS. After running for a few days and things get settled, Vista is actually pretty fast.

For me, Vista has been faster then my same machine with XP! Startup is MUCH shorter in Vista.

I think it's just Vista is new, and many things have changed, and many people don't want to take the time to get used to it.

The same thing happend with XP.

All you've done is "get used to it" without tweaking Vista in any way, and you prefer it as-is to XP? Your copy of Vista is much smarter than mine, in addition to have apparently taken some sort of self-help course! :D

My own copy is dumb as a damn rock, has not improved or become any brighter with age, and is no match for XP in any way discernible to me. I'm glad for your sake, though, that Vista has worked out well for you.
