Hello guys/gals,
My daughter recently ruined one of my parents DVDs with a health scratch in it. I purchased a Skip Dr. to try and buff the scratch out, as well as having tried other "tried and true" methods.
Alas, the disc it kaput.
I know that you can copy DVDs and whatnot, I am wanting to duplicate the movie Cars, to replace the copy my daughter ruined.
From what I've read, you can copy the contents of the DVD to your HD with DVD Decryptor, and then burn it with DVD Shrink to make a playable DVD. I know that some of the process is used to down-convert the movie to fit it onto a single layer. But, I have a dual-layer DVD burner in my laptop, and I am trying to preserve as much quality as possible.
I really have no idea what I'm doing other than trying to piece together info from forums and websites.
Just wondering if someone could point me to a nice tutorial, or if it's not to much trouble, outline the steps to accomplish this. Of course, I'm looking for a "free" solution, if that's possible.
Thanks!

Just create an iso image of the DVD using DVD decryptor and burn the image into a playable DVD using Imgburn.

use dvd shrink to "transfer" the mpeg2 video from dvd to hdd. That way, you won't loose any quality.

There are a couple good disc data recovery programs that may be helpful as well. If you can still read the disc but are still getting errors, this may be of use. I have only used a program like this once, so I am not a good source for software...but a quick Goog search for reviews may be helpful.

Yes, I'm going to try and do this tonight I think, well, at least the ripping portion, I'm hoping that a disc copy does not take as long as a rip/encode usually does.
I'm going for coolguy's method first, makes the most sense to me, as long as I don't run into problems with the DRM or whatever. -

I don't have a dl burner so never tried it but this imgburn burning guide looks good.
And if dvd decrytper won't rip the disc, im certain dvdfab will. -
You can download DVDfab HD decryptor here

Nice guys, thanks for that. Blasted rep limit!!!!!
That imgburn site says only to use Verbatim DL DVD+ discs...then references a LOOOOOOOOOONG list of technical gibberish. Anyone had experience with other brands?
