    it works fine

    what OS do you have??

If you have vista ultimate, you can use it's tool

if not, I really like Acronis True Image Home 11....... you can download the free trial and use it!! Great for backing up an OS or parttion to another partiton or hard drive!!

Well i mean for example, if its a clone on another partition, how do you use it? I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I know Acronis can back up/clone hdds, but id like something that can be cloned to an unused partition that i can just use to immediately recover my laptop should it crash again.

most of these programs have an option to create a copy of your current system, which can be retrieved with a recovery dvd or sth...

as for a partition to save it too... although for a just "messed up" windows that is all right, I'd always use a different hard drive, prob one that isn't connected to your machine all the time, in case you catch a nasty virus or hard drive failure..
