    Backup and Raid 0 please help

    I have a gateway fx p6831 and i am going to set up a raid 0. i have 2 250 gb hd etc. I have aconis for backup, is there a way that i can back up my hd before raid 0 and then restore it with raid 0 installed? i finally have my laptop set up how i wan't, and i do not really want to format. Any help would be appreciated. thank

    You may be able to take an image before you go raid 0, then when in raid o, re-apply this image to your C partition of raid 0, it would be the same thing as essentially moving from one hdd to another when replacing them in a laptop.

    Unless you have a hardware raid controller and are doing this at that level, I doubt that the image apps are going to work directly with the Raid 0. If you are using a software raid 0, then the image app is going to see each partition on the two drives as separate partitions and it will know nothing about them being a raid configuration. But that really just creates a logistical problem for you. You would have to image and restore the partitions in pairs.

    If you do have a hardware raid controller and are using it to create the array it will be transparent to the imaging software. I have two different servers with hardware raid controllers and in both cases, I can boot from a ghost CD (running PC-DOS) and Ghost sees the array as if it were a single partition on a single drive.
