Want to take about twenty or so of my favorite dvd movies and convert them to something smaller for use on my laptop. I want to do this for two reasons.

1: Spinning the dvd seems to kill battery life really fast and
2: I don't like the idea of carrying my original movies with me.

I tried just copying the dvd's to my hard drive but that takes up a ton of storage. I would like to find something thats free preferably. I wanna do this right the first time because I'm sure its going to be time consuming. The less steps the better :)

PS: I hope this is ok considering I do 'own' these movies. If this is somehow not allowed please disregard this post. I did some searching on google but most results wanted me to buy software. Thanks in advance!

The easiest solution is DVD Fab HD Decrypter (full version, not free). It will rip the DVD and encode it to DivX or XviD in one click. The Free way is DVD Fab HD Decrypter to rip the movie then your favorite XviD encoding program like AutoGK or AVIDeMux or HandBrake or whatever.

Ended up getting DVD Fab HD Decrypter which might have been a mistake. I just found out VLC can do video encoding from the dvd's and its free. I already use VLC as It is a awesome video player 'plays everything'. Maybe once I figure out what works best Ill post back.

    Thanks
