Hey all, I record the games for my local football team and I'm trying to find the easiest way to batch convert the clips (each clip is a play, so no clip is longer than 30 seconds) I get when I dump the video. I've been trying to use Xilisoft (v.6.8) and it's not doing all that great. CPU & GPU usage don't go over 20% and it's more than half an hour for half an hour of clips, too long for my current situation. I'm converting from .m2t to .avi (much easier to work with).
If the converter you can suggest can use CUDA efficiently that'd be great, but it's not a necessity. I'm OC'ing my 920XM to try and get this going as fast as possible, so multi-thread support is essential.
    Thanks in advance!

Not sure if it does batch or how long it takes though.

Try disable CUDA as it can actually be slower than your CPU (since you got that i7).

I have used Badaboom (CUDA-based encoding app) in the past. I much prefer Handbrake.

    * Handbrake is free, and Open Source (Badaboom costs $30)

    * Handbrake is multithreaded. Your Core i7-920UM would most likely be faster than a single CUDA-enabled GP-GPU. My Core i5-2500K desktop CPU encodes at about 3.7x real-time on 4 cores.

    * Handbrake is much more flexible input, output, and encoding options than Badaboom. More powerful user interface that gives you more options)

    * Handbrake has great batch mode support (Badaboom has batch mode, but was only recently added. User interface is easier to use in Handbrake). Just queue up a bunch of videos you need to encode in Handbrake, and let the queue run overnight. If needed, you can pause the queue in the morning if it isn't done yet, and resume later when your computer is not being used.

Badaboom and CUDA-based encoding seems like a nice little tech demo / novelty, just to show that you can use your GPU to do it. But if you really want to get work done, then go with Handbrake.

There a good one for OpenCL but needs the Avivo pack - now called AMD Media Codec Package -from AMD/ATI so i suppose it only works in AMD/ATI cards.

+1 for HandBrake on an i7.

Handbrake has my vote. I don't think the latest versions of handbrake include .avi support for converting/encoding (it can read the files just fine), but it's an obsolete format anyways, time to switch to .mp4 :p. Handbrake will make use of all 8 threads on the i7. You could also take a look at this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/not...file-size-highest-quality-w-free-tools-3.html. Good tutorial with a nice alternative to handbrake.

Thank you all for the help! +rep across the board lol
I'll look into that tutorial and see if handbrake can make things go a little faster :D
And yeah, tijo, it doesn't support .avi anymore in the latest one I downloaded. Guess it is time to jump to .mp4!

When using DVDfab8 i found my CPU was faster than the GPU at encode/decoding.

Using CPU+CUDA is the way to go, then you don't have to choose, it`s not an option though
