I have a 6 and a 9 for my 1520 and I rarely even use the 9. I get more than 3.5 hours out of my 6 and usually more than 5 on my 9. Heres my advice, when your on battery, run power saver.

The battery life depends on what hardware you have to use up the power.

6 cell batteries also range significantly in capacity: The battery in my Sony G11 is rated at 10.8V, 5800mAh = 62.64Whr while the Zepto battery is 10.8V, 4800mAh = 51.84Whr. That's a 20% difference and I think some 6 cell units are rated at 4400mAh.

Some examples from my experience (more details in links below) for light usage and fairly dim display.

    Samsung X60 plus (T7200 + ATI X1700 + 15.4") ~ 2 hours
    Zepto 6024W (T7300 + Intel X3100 + 14.1") ~ 2.5 hours
    Samsung X60 (T2300 + ATI X1400 + 15.4") ~ 3 hours
    Samsung Q70 (T7300 + nVidia 8400M G + 13.3") ~3 hours
    Samsung Q35 (T5600 + Intel 950GM + 12.1") ~ 5 hours
    Sony G11 (U1500 + Intel 945GMS + 12.1") ~ 9 hours

RM Clock will let you check the battery rating.

I get roughly 4+ hours on my Q35. I haven't taken it beyond the 3 hour mark since I have no need to although I presume I could happily get 4 and a half hours.

you cannot assume that just because two different batteries both say they have "6 cels" means they have the same capacity. 6 cels simply means that there are 6 battery cels in the plastic battery case. it doesn't tell you anything about each of those cels capacity.

in any case, i could get just a little more than 4 hrs on my 6 cel battery for a dell 15.4" notebook

I get about 3.5 hours max on battery. I've never watched a movie while it was on battery. I disabled all the Aero effects and with light usage it lasted just over 4 hours. I dont use my laptop under battery that much so this battery life is fine for me...

wifi off. lcd a couple clicks down. normal usage. i also had a 9 cel which gave me about 6 hrs. total, i had about 10 hrs time between 2 batteries.

2 hrs sounds really low unless you're gaming or something.

I get about 3 hours on my lenovo 3000 n100 with the 6 cell 4400mAh 10.8V battery it came with. I've got vista set to power saver and the sidebar turned off.

Have had this laptop for a month and have mainly been gaming in windowed mode(E.V.E.) while tweaking Vista and surfing the net and I average 1-1.5 hours on power4gear high performance with a usb mouse jacked in.

Update:Today, while driving around at work, I had the laptop going in rmclock power saving mode(rmclock default), no peripheals attatched and lcd brightness at around 40%. I was switching the wireless on/off just playing around trying to find networks as I drove around and at the same time was doing a full system scan with avg anti-virus, did a few tweaks, went in/out of hibernate 2 or 3 times and at the end of the day the battery was at 11% after roughly 2.5hours of use on and off. With a few more tweaks(just installed rmclock last night) and a little more common sense I believe I could push 3 hours out of this machine, hoping to soon find a 9 cell for this thing and them maybe get 3.5-4 hours out of it using a power rsaving mode that is actually usable.

Dell c640, dual 6-cells gets me 6.5 hours, watching movies, surfing, etc - full brightness on XP.

Dell Vostro 1500: 6-cell 2.25 hours, 9-cell 3.5 hours. Full brightness on Vista.

As a side note when I had XP on my Vostro, I got an extra 17 minutes of battery life on the 6 cell when I ran the exact same tests, never tried the 9 cell.
