Anyone here done any experiments to figure out how much battery life is gained (or lost) by using the non-Aero desktop in Vista versus the Aero desktop?

From my experience not much, but it will depend on 2 linked dependencies.
1. The clock speeds required to run the aero effect
2. The voltages used to run those clocks
I've found that battery life has nothing to do with clock speeds but rather the voltages that are required to run them at that speed. (Found this from my UV'd T5450, not a GPU but same principle)
So... you won't lose any battery life if you're able to have your min clocks be able to run aero vs your max clocks running aero (with same voltages) BUT, very often the higher clocks are accompanied by higher voltages which reduce your battery life.
