    Hey Guys,

I know benchmarking can only be so accurate and is always open to interpretation, but I was hoping we could discuss some of the software here designed specifically towards rating notebooks on its performance and battery life..

I was just keen on users preferences, what each software is good for primarily, and any pitfalls to keep an eye out for.

Perhaps later down the track if we find that there is an overwhelming agreement on one particular method then we could start collecting results from various manufacturers and models by users submitting their independent results. I reckon it'd make a great reference section for ppl wanting to know more about what to look for in notebooks b4 purchasing, as well as a bit of fun for users to see where their notebook stacks up.

Anyways the software packages i know of are:

    Notebook Hardware Control
    Battery Eater
    Mobilmeter
    3dmark
    pcmark

So what are your thoughts and preferences on these tools?
Are there any others to suggest?
If we were to create a series of tests to baseline notebooks as fairly as possible then what steps and tools would you suggest?

btw.. I only really kept to free software..

Speed fan and CPU-z but this is more like computer monitoring then benchmarking these aren't testing performance but stability.

sorry .. i considered stability as a measurable factor in owning a notebook.. so put it in as part of the benchmarking group..

I guess its an idea of what makes a laptop ppl would want.. not just like the overclocking scenario where it will be real fast but stability is comprimised.
