I have read what AHCI is, but i can't find any info as to what (in layman's terms) the pro/cons of enabling it are.

If someone could explain this i would be grateful.

AHCI allows your system to work at a higher level all around. My initial tests with Sandisk SSD showed an increase of 10-15MB/S in read, write and burst speeds in the HDTune tests.

Manufacturers are also now coming out with this enabled right from the factory, something not so common a few years back.

Sony, for example either does not enable it or has it set in a fashion that is different than Intels design. As a result someone here went and purchased a SSD only to find the system was not compatible with that SSD. Im not saying this is the same for all Sonys, only for that instance so....

much needs to be ironed out.

I am planning to do an article on this in the next few weeks but am working on 2 others presently. It has become very popular with people now doing clean installs and suddenly getting BSODs as a result of the AHCI drivers not being installed.

    Up and coming!!!
