I want to be able to switch between two desktops with different windows in each one. I want to have one desktop be Ubuntu/ some other linux in a VM. I'd like it if it's light.

No not a virtual machine. A virtual desktop. So I can switch between Windows and Ubuntu but they'll both be full screen.

Not sure what you mean by virtual desktop but you specifically mentioned you wanted an OS in a VM which is what Indrek mentioned. VMWare Player and Virtualbox are both very good and can be full-screened, making your guest OS seem native.

Have you tried the virtual desktop managers that came with your card like AMD HydraVision?

Nvidia workstation cards are the Nview ... (Not for Nvidia Geforce users ... cough)

Oh you wanted the multiple desktops for 1 OS. I see. Windows does not have the by default, and I've been wanting that really badly too.
