Hey I was just wondering if there were any good free and easy-to-use (dumbed down) programs that'll let me take my tv box sets and put them on my zune (so basically in windows media player video format, i think it's called .wmv?)

Would prefer something not overly complex where I have to alter a ton of settings or whatnot. Thanks in advance

I didn't know Windows Media Player could convert dvd's into WMV format?

Is Handbrake free? I'll check them out when I get home.

Um.. this is a 2 step process. I have zune 30 and i do this all the time.

1st step: Rip the dvd to mpeg4, h.264, vc1, wmv, wmvhd, windows media center codec in either mp4, wmv or windows media center container.

    2nd step:
For zune 30, it supports wmv container with wmv8 or 9 video codec and wma9 constant or variable bitrate, wma 9.2 lossless, wma 10 professional audio codec.

I prefer wmv9 @600kbit/s + wma 10 professional @ 128kbit/s. This setting pretty much give you the almost the "perfect" quality.
For longer battery life and smaller file size, wmv9 @ 250kbit/s + wma 10 professional @ 64kbit/s is pretty good in terms of quality. It's about as good as axxo movie that you download from torrent sites. :>

To encode videos to the above settings, I highly recommend windows media encoder or other 3rd party varient or expression encoder (part of expression web suite, a.k.a new front page). If you have trouble using windows media encoder, you can PM me for detailed instructions. If you're not comfortable doing this, zune software can do this automatically with a tiny loss of quality.

    For zune 80, 4, 8, 16, 120, you can use wmv and mp4 file containers. The device support wmv8, 9, h.264, mpeg4 codec and mp3, aac, wma9, 9.2, and 10 professional.

You can use the zune 30's encoding method to encode video for zune 80 or encode using any mp4 (x2.64 based) ipod or zune converter. You can also use zune software for this as well.

I use Videora IPod Converter which is compatible with the Zune player as well. I use both iPod and Zune.

Use DVDshrink, nero, raxio or any software capable of "ripping" videos to mp4 or wmv file container.
