This is actually regarding my mom's desktop, but its the same either way. I was wondering what you guys thought was the best Antivirus and Spyware protection you can get? Price isnt too big of a deal, but not ridiculous. Also anything that loads quicky and doesnt take forever at startup would be nice because my mom's computer isnt superfast. For a while she had AOL Safety and Security because we had nothing else and she figured something was better than nothing. Needless to say i got rid of all that(it was awful). So anyway, any suggestions would be wonderful! Thanks

O and also i tried Panda software once... Never again, it took 45 min to start up and another hour and a half to uninstall it and restart..

Finally, her computer runs on XP Pro, has 256 mb of Rambus ram, and a 1.8 Ghz P4 processor and like a 35 gig HDD(no idea on the RPM's of it).

    Thanks guys!

For av I would go with either NOD32, Kasperspy, or BitDefender (NOD32 being my first choice). For spyware Adaware+Spybot is usually enough for anyone.

Kaspersky is better than nod32 because of the virus detection and protection rate, though, Nod32 takes less resources. As for anti-spyware, SpywareDoctor is the best because of the detection rate, though again, it takes alot of ram and cpu.

Also, if you know where to look, you can get all those for free.

    ;)

    2nd vote for AVG.

Takes up little resources, updates daily, and it's free!

By the way, Comodo is an excellent free firewall.

I would suggest NOD32 along with Microsoft's Defender and Ad-Aware.

I use kaspersky and it works well. I think you can download it form it's web and if you get a key it's like you bought it.

I use Spybot, Ad-aware, MS Defender for the family desktop.

I use McAfee Virusscan because my college gives it to students for free. Do you go to college? They may provide some. CNet has great comments on AVG.

I've used McAfee for quite a while. It took quite a while to scan, and took up a lot of system resources. I've now switched to CA's eTrust Security Suite, and it is simply amazing. It is fast and doesn't hog resources.

For antispyware, i use Ad-aware. It is simply the best.
