What software do you guys use to:

    Burn data on DVDRs?
    Burn data on CDRs?
    Burn audio CDs?

I've been having problems with my software, i've wasted 5 CDs trying to burn an audio CD, and i still didn't burn it. I used Roxio, Windows Media Player, Windows (OS - wizard), Real Player ... none worked. So please recommend something that actually works!

    Thanks!

Have a look here. Calvin put a lot of effort into this thread. I'm sure you'll find what you need.

    FWIW: I like ImgBurn.

@wally: I say to every man his own...i think if u play around with the settings in Roxio u will learn to like it. I didn't like it at one point but it's working fine for me now...or I should say it's working fine on another computer.

@bmwrom in the link u provided I think "AnyDVD" should Definitely be under the Category of "Disk/Image Ripping/Burning:".

^^^ very nice link/list BTW..never really checked it out since i've been on here. Kudos to u bmwrom for suggesting it and Calvin for creating it.

v8 works w/ vista, 7 works well w/ xp-- 7 is incompatible w/ vista, but doesn't have the bloat!

ashampoo burning studio is my fav. it's lighter than NERO in term of system resource consumption, more stable, no burning errors.

    WTF are you talking about?!

Nero v7.11.10.0 Works PERFECTLY on Vista been using it for 6 months now!

Nero 6 Doesn't work on Vista But version 7 is perfect!

Nero 8 is out of the picture it's just full of bloatware!

    NERO 7 FTW!

WOW, so Nero 7 is actually that GOOD  It comes with my laptop but I skip it when I do the clean install.. :p
I only install Nero CoverDesigner Essentials and use InfraRecorder for cd burning .

Nero 6 was the best, light on system resources, does everything you need.

Nero 7 was a little bit useless with all the extra apps it comes with.

But if you skip everything and just install

    1) Nero Burning ROM
    2) Nero Vison

unselect all the other useless proggies, u'll be fine! it works on both XP and Vista perfectly.

Nero Vision recodes any video u have, wmv, divx, u name it, into a working VCD or DVD :)

just drag and drop and wait for the conversion.

Nero 8 is utter crap! it doesn't feel like ur installing a program anyway , feels like ur installing some big game!

nero sucks.. imgburn all the way. not only is it free it can do pretty much anything you want as far a burning. and yes the newest version 2.4.1 can burn audio cd's. using a cue sheet its really easy once you do it once.

imo nero vision blows. it def is not nearly as good as convertxtodvd. nero always skips stutters, or the audio goes out of sync. ive tried every fix they recc and it will do fine for a couple discs then have issues with others. never a single conversion issue with convertxtodvd.

paid burner ashampoo is my first pick with the nti suite being next

I have no opinion on Nero, but it's obvious that others sure as hell do! Not sure I'd want to rely on an app which draws such mixed reviews. Can't vouch for ImgBurn's ability to burn audio - I don't use the program for that purpose - but will accept zfactor's say on the matter. ImgBurn works extremely well when burning data, though. I use it very often, especially when downloading and copying Linux ISO's to disk. An added plus: the price! Free is tough to beat. LOL

Oh, Nero 6 is what I meant, sorry!!

Also, if you feel like you just must pay for a burning program, try Cheetah DVD Burning. It's a great small program, does everything you basically need and doesn't have any bloat. Download and try out the trial to check it out.

+1 (and another one) for ImgBurn.
A real great program to burn your CD's and DVD's.
Nero? Pff, an average Linux distro is lighter than Nero.
And, like bmwrob mentioned, it never fails me when needing to burn a Linux distro.

I forgot to mention that I have ImgBurn and i've always used it to burn DVDs. I tried the audio CD and my car CD player kept saying "Error."

I'm gonna try Burnaware and then Nero after that if the first doesn't work.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

What probelms did you have with WMP? That's the one I use and it works great. It also has an option to auto-level the audio so that one track is not louder than another.
