My kid likes to watch DVDs on the computer. I'm trying to get my Vaio F2 set up to do that for him. Windows Media Player doesn't seem to want to open all the DVDs we have (Mater's Tall Tales, for example, won't open with WMP). VLC Media Player works, but it's interface is a little crude. Any other options I should try? Do people like PowerDVD? Something else? I am willing to pay for third-party software if the quality is good.

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
PowerDVD should be fine. I used it back in the day until I discovered VLC.
But IMO, for me VLC is way easier to navigate through DVD than with WMP. Easier to change audio/subtitles/etc. -
Another vote here for PowereDVD.

Thanks folks. I was able to get a product code for Windows Media Center from MS, and for now that's working well. But PowerDVD will be my go-to if that ends up not working well.

MPC-HC should be fine.
The media upgrade you got should be fine too. PowerDVD is not needed. -
