So I was running Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon with Gnome and I remembered it had this neat little dictionary app.

It was really cool because it got all of its definitions and synonims from Webster and/or another online dictionary site.

Is there a dictionary program like this for Windows?

But does that use definitions from downloaded dictionaries or definitions from the web?

is this something you download? or does it come packaged in any software suite?

normally I just use dictionary.com, but was wondering just today about such programs myself...

By a glance it looks like an app you can run without going online just like Word, Calculator, Photoshop, etc.

cool. many thanks to you and proxci. for a logophile seriously considering plunking down $295 for the OED on CD-ROM, I'm sure it won't be everything, but looks like a nifty enough program, and you can't beat the price :)
