After my 90-day trial of Norton Antivirus ran out, I have been searching for a free new antivirus program. I know there is the Windows Live OneCare trial available but I want a full version, not trial. I know, I'm cheap... However, I'm really just waiting until Vista comes out. So which of these would be my best bet?

    Avira Antivir
    AVG Antivirus
    Avast Antivirus

    Thanks for your help.

Of the three, Avast and AVG are by far the most popular.

AVG Antivirus is IMHO the best free anti virus protection software out there right now.

I've been happy with AVG. If you do decide to buy the full version their 2-year subscriptions are less expensive than Norton and I like their software better.

Yea, I agree with everyone, AVG.

I just installed AVG Anti-Virus and AVG Spy-ware. (Both free versions)

Avira is the most accurate of those three. It is also more resource-consuming, and not as popular as AVG or Avast. AVG and Avast are about equal, and preference really is the only reason why one would recommend the other. You should probably simply download and try them all and choose between them however.

Avast all the way for me. It's worked perfectly, and it's free!
