I love gmail because it's anti-spam filter is soooo good, never got spam in my inbox (they go automatically to spam folder, and are erased after 30 days). And it have free POP option, so I can read my email within thunderbird.
By the way, I have both, but my vote goes (of course) to gmail.

gmail's interface is spot on - great use of keyboard shortcuts and is very fast. i enjoy using live mail, but only because it hooks up so easily to Outlook and the Live Mail client.

well since gmail uses pop3, you can also configure it to work on outlook. I personally like gmail more because 1) it's bug free 2) It's got a very simple interface 3) it's fast (ever tried sending yourself an email from another account within windows live server? It takes 1 min while gmail takes 7 seconds). 4) Best Junk Mail filter I've used so far. 5) Tons of store that grows. We all know that yahoo and microsoft both offer 2 GBs of free email space now, but gmail is at 2.8 GBs of storage AND it grows over time so you keep getting more space. You can't find any other free services out there that will promise you that ;)

I'm using GMail now because of its flexibility; I can check my email on any computer, or I can use it with my mail application. So I vote GMail for more features.

Gmail is best for all the reasons stated. I use Opera mainly, but when I use Firefox the Gmail Skins extension is good for me as I use it to replace the white background - better for my sore eyes.

    Gmail

Its just so much easier to use compared to Windows Live Mail. Gmail is a lot faster and efficient. Also Gmail has free POP3 access.

When I got my first email address, it was through our AT&T internet service, a upgrade yahoo email. Recently I switched over to Gmail and it is just so much better with its filtering options, simplicity, and speed. I just wish it would have options for different color backgrounds. The sky blue is nice but it could be nice to have options to change the color around.

Just yesterday I created a Windows Live (MSN Hotmail) email address to serve as a backup, and after some customizations, it is not bad and I see it at about on par with Yahoo mail. The Yahoo Mail Beta to me is just too slow for email. Gmail tops all at the end of the day.

I agree with Gmail, I've been using it since the beta and its still the best. Some of the other big email clients are getting better but Gmail is still a good amount faster and cleaner.

I have both Gmail and Window Live Mail accounts, and I wouldn't say WLM is that bad. Sure Gmail's ads are way less annoying and has a lot better than WLM's, but I find WLM's interface to be quite attractive. I've quite adjusted to Gamail's "tags" options yet and prefer the old folders system that I've come to rely on. Besides, I have Live Messenger on all the time, which gives me incoming email notifications without having to run another process.

Gmail is all I use now, though no one knows it because I use it to send and receive fror my other email addresses.

As has been mentioned it's easy to search mail and it has a great spam filter. I cancelled my paid subscription to a spam filtering service, where I was always clicking to identify spam. I have better things to do with my time. I rarely do this with Gmail and, when I do, it's much quicker to idenifty and rid the spam.

Windows Live Hotmail. (Everyone went for gmail so there's little competition)

Guys, Windows Live Mail is the renamed version of Windows Live Mail Desktop, and formerly the name of Hotmail during its beta period. :)

I've been using the Windows Live Mail client to manage multiple Gmail accounts, plus my Yahoo! account and university account. So, both.
