See. The nice thing about Baku is that you can choose which files to delete after it has run it's search, unlike CCleaner which just offers you a list to delete as a whole.
I just wish it had an uninstaller. Then it would really be nice complete package.

Well that is true [about fraps], but it has it's uses. But you reminded me of another really useful free trial version that I forgot to put on my list: 3DMark06.
File cleaners, defrags and registry tweaks are all over the place and most everything has a pretty decent free option, but 3DMark, even the trial version, is uniquely useful.
As for Recuva, I don't know... I haven't yet had the need to try anything else other than Pandora. -

Here is something interesting that I observed tonight and I don't know if it's normal or not. I used JKDefrag and it did it's thing lightning quick as usual. However, I decided that I was going to run the Windows defrag just to see it would tell me that the drive was already defragged, but it actually went through the process. Not only did it go through the process, but it took about an hour to defrag the drive. How is this possible? If JKDefrag had already done it's job, then why would it take the Windows defrag so long? Why would the Windows defrag need to do anything at all? Can anyone offer me some insight?
-
It may be that Windows defrag prefers that the file types be placed in a different order than JKDefrag does.

I was wondering idf any of you guys use "Portable Apps" on memory sticks?
I use if for work as the utilities it has are perfect for carrying around, in case i have to go to site etc.
I have a complete list of applications from Burning to Open Office and VLC player. All these are Free and run from a memory stick with no install, most of them are "exe" files.
I am thinking of using Portable Apps loaded into a folder on the HDD, set it to auto-boot with windows and use none or very little actual software installed onto Vista, except games and iTunes.
BTW - JK Defrag runs fine (",)

I used to use Portable apps, but then i realized i don't need it and stopped using it. Also, that isn't a bad idea but only do if if you really need the extra space, too much writing to your drive will kill it. If you want to know how to set it up better, i can tell you how to set it up for programs.

It's only a theory, might just use the full programs but...
So what would your advice be, all help is very gratefully recieved

Cool, thanks for the advice.
I'm thinking that a M17X should be upt o the task lol
I am going to follow the NBR guide though, i want my notebook set-up to run correctly. I'm adding Diskeeper 2008 pro premier to manage de-fragmentation etc.
I also agree totally with the Free is best theory on software. There's a whole universe of free but, legit software out there...
Once again thanks

I've been running portable apps from my HD for a long time, and have great results; no problems at all with performance or anything else. I actually wish that I would have installed FF as a portable app, but I didn't think to at the time.
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I actually run it from a laptop HDD in a USB enclosure. I had a 4Gb memory stick but ran out of space with my work back-up so i aquired the 37Gb laptop drive and P/A runns from that, it's fine.
I thought if using P/A on Vista as it would use less resources etc.
I've got FF in P/A but, i use Opera so...
