Thanks for the suggestion Lawrence, but i must ask. What advantages does WinGuggle have over Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder? WinGuggle seems to only work on Vista while Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder works on quite a multitude of Windows OS's.
-
Magical Jelly has been for years BUT some people like the simplicity and
OEM settings of WinGuggle. They want something New, I think.
Also, your Anti-virus will not sound any alarm.
I admit MagicJelly has more keys to find but in OEM settings WinGuggle is more powerful and easy to use.
Soon Winguggle will not only seen as key finder program but a security and basic customization program too. It became popular in small crowd for several months without Talking and spreading to the community. I have the data.
Why? Because some users love it. I have an average views of 100 per day.
WinBubble i think... It already Reach it's peak. 750,000+++ Google results. More than "Ubuntu Tips and tricks" Keyword. So, From this day, I'm going to develop WinGuggle more, just like WinBubble.
But I hope It will become popular also.
So, ANY suggestions are welcome.
Even in Programming. Thanks in Advance
Edit: The Key Finder Thing, WinGuggle will work in Windows XP. OEM Settings. Not yet.
All you need is .Net Framework. -
Alright Lawrence, I'll add it to the list.
-
really? wow!!!
That's great Cal!
Thanks to you too...After reading your question and while replying to your post. Some features just came into my mind. I think I'm going to suspend the release of Winguggle 1.4 tomorrow. I'll add some features and I'll make sure it will work 100% in XP.

I need the best Video splitter. I have seen people posting scenes from movies and those extracted scenes are of the same quality.
As this post is about best software, that's why i am requesting if anyone can suggest. -
Are you looking to make stills from video? Almaost any videoplayer can do that. Or are you looking to extract clips? DVDShrink can do that for free.

For media why isn't iTunes up there? Its a free program for download.
www.itunes.com -
There was a debate about this some time ago, it was decided not to include iTunes for a multitude of reasons although they may not be valid now. I'll go ahead and add it if no one opposes the idea. So anyone who doesn't want it on the list has to speak up.
-
LOL... iTunes should be there, but with a skull-and-crossbones type of warning saying that:
- it's bloated and slow to load
- it runs a lot of programs and services in the background even when you're not using it: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302488
- even if you block these programs using msconfig, they'll be back the next time you update iTunes
- iTunes requires QuickTime which has been the subject of a lot of security issues lately (although Apple has generally issued updates to address these issues)
- The updater program (Apple Software Update) may install other unwanted programs such as web browsers if you're not careful to uncheck all the appropriate boxes in the update process. -
It took some time for me to remove all those unecessary programs..
-
On second thought let's not!
-
Alright, iTunes will be kept off the list.
-
Good move Calvin. It's too bad really. In the early days it was a great unobtrusive little program, and then they had to go all Microsoft with it.
-
There are many alternative ways to do things without iTunes, speaking of that. I should go ahead and add Songbird now, shouldn't I? I've been waiting on it to mature and now that it has gotten to a fairly nice point i think it should be added. Anyone for or against this?
-
So guys, which is the best video splitter then?
-
Please add to PDF viewer: Foxit Reader http://www.foxitsoftware.com/
Really good freeware -

I'd like to note that FLyaKite OS X is windows XP only.
And, I'd like to recommend VMware server for virtualization.
You need a free license available at Vmware's site to use it, but it is free.

I'll take a look into those. Thanks |crash|.
-
You should add TweakUI
"This PowerToy gives you access to system settings that are not exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including mouse settings, Explorer settings, taskbar settings, and more."
I ALWAYS use this after formatting, installing a fresh XP.
Note: only for XP. -
Wasn't there a software named TweakVista that did the same thing for both? I'll take a look into it.
-
-
Thanks for the information.
I'm using Thunderbird as my default Email client now. But still have some feature that it does not have. -
-
Hi people,
Does anyone know of any free software for windows that as close as possible or as similar as possible to Coreldraw Graphics Suite?
I am trying to find one, but can't find anything.
Thanks in advanceCheers.
-
I'm not really familiar with the Corel stuff, but...
OpenOffice.org has a drawing program for diagrams and stuff. For more of a paint program, check out Paint.NET and the GIMP. -

Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Have you tried Paint.net Paint.Net
It's very simple but can do a lot...
OB -
Yeah I have tried Paint.net, but did not fully discover of it yet.
Many function is just like Photoshop. It's better you get this instead of purchase of photoshop. But i feel some lag when using it, mayb my desktop system is not good enough. -

There are two new things i would like to address, please read.
I feel that just having a list of software may be confusing for some people who want to try better alternatives. I was helping someone install software on their computer and i felt it would be best if i was able to just point to this guide and have them feel comfortable installing thing without me being there. So i wanted to add a section of the guide that actually covered why this software may be better/inferior to other software and what would be good reasons to install it. I came up with a similar idea a few weeks earlier but wasn't able to pull through with it because of a lot of work that i was doing, now that i seem to have some free time i was wondering if i could make this more than just a list, but a guide to the best free software for windows. What do you guys think? Please provide me your detailed thoughts on this.
I came up with an idea to include online software in this guide but i never really got around to it because of work, now i would like actualize that idea and i would like to hear from you guys what your favorite web softwares were. Please provide detailed thoughts/suggestions. -
Online music radio/player: www.pandora.com
Yeah I think a description would be nice for all the software.
Tim -
What do you mean my a descriptions though, can you explain please? Do you mean i should add details beside the software or at the end of the list where i put the actual installation guide?
Anyone else have any thoughts on this? -
Well maybe for each piece of software put a little description about it. Maybe a sentence or something to describe it even more than the category it falls under.
Tim -
Alright, that sounds great. Since i made sure that everyone included descriptions in the suggestions i shouldn't have too much of a hard time doing that. I should get it done in a few days as long as my work on my upcoming guide doesn't take too much time.
-
Hmm... I was wondering if anyone could suggest some software for video surveillance. I would need the software to be able to record up to 6 cameras (video only) that are connected via capture card and allow for remote monitoring of the video feeds. The software we currently have keeps freezing up the computer when you try to run other software.
EDIT:
Also, does anyone know of any good monitor calibration software?
Thanks in advance -
-
I think a short description of each piece of software would suffice. Adding more than that would clutter the guide.
I often see questions here like "which audio software is best for encoding", or "which audio editing software is good for joining tracks", etc. If every piece of software had a short description about what it does and what it does well, people would be able to pick the right one themselves instead of asking every time.
-
I have what may be a ridiculously stupid question but I'm still going to ask.
Where I'm currently deployed to the WiFi is so slow I'm unable to down load any programs that I want from this list. so my question stupid it may be since I'm not good with computers is, is it possible to have some one Zip say the anti Virus I want and post or send it to me so I can do a straight download? My internet at work is fast enough but I cant visit downloading sites. I did down load the program/hack to my thumb drive and put it on my new laptop so I could take control of programs for customizing and it worked fine.
Also i did manage to be able to download DVD Shrink and i was wondering what size the DVD should be when I rip it to my C: I custom shrank it down to like 48% but i had to take out the menu and it was about 2G, with menu it was like 4G. If u need more info i can take a screen shot of the settings i used. -
-
I think its a good idea if you focus on the web services first and make the description thing secondary. If I come up with any ideas I'll be sure to let you know.
Keep up the great work! -
-
You could add IceChat to the list which is a completely free IRC program used for chatting. I believe the site is located at http://www.icechat.net/

Greetings and salutations,
Im relatively new to this form, so forgive me if this question has been addressed elsewhere or somewhere in this lengthy thread.
How many of you use Open Office? I just received my new laptop (see sig below) and have an older version of MS Office 2000 that I can load on it. However, Im wondering if I need to bother loading MS. If you are using OOo, hows that workin for ya? This is a personal computer and it is not tied to work, so MS Office is not required.
Schultzy -
Open Office is working perfectly fine for me, if your choice is between Open Office and MS Office 2000 and you have no ties to MS Office then i suggest you use Open Office.
-
Well done mate, huge help for me.
Btw, what do you consider to be the easiest dvd/cd writer program?
Some of them are very complicated and I like simple GUIs and such -
Stop worrying over where stuff is ,and yes winRAR is a trial but do they cancel the program so its unusable when your trials up? nope they don't had mine now since i had the laptop which was bout 2 year back
