Looking to get a Nexus 7 tablet in the near future, and I'd like to set up some sort of remote access/streaming feature on my desktop (Win7 Pro X x64). I'd essentially like to "share" my storage drives and be able to pull down documents, photos, etc. I'm looking for a solution similar to Dropbox, but with my own storage (over 2TB) and something that I don't necessarily have to upload to "the cloud."

I've looked into the PogoPlug PC software, but that lacks a lot of tuning options. Something with a web interface would be ok. I'm just looking to make a big virtual bucket that my tablet and phone can download stuff from at will.

    Suggestions, thoughts?

If you can spare a dedicated machine as a fileserver, I can't recommend FreeNAS highly enough.

Install ES File Explorer (free) on your device, then you can browse your network shares just like you were using a regular computer.

Play files with the player of your choice. Works like a charm :)

...edit: bummer. That's mainly for home W/LAN only. I think you could set it up for internet access too with a VPN at least.
