    too many!!
used to some extent most major version of windows since 2. something, except media centre and tablet.
my favourite to work with was 3.11 (nt 3.51 i think it was aka), it was very stable, about 10 years behind the AmigaOS i ran on my main computer at the time, but it was stable.
i've been suffering bluescreens and driver problems ever since
i suppose second position goes to 98se. 2k was better than XP until MS sabotaged it.
not having run vista yet, the worst of the bunch is undoubtedly Millenium.

    Windows 2007? You're referring to Server 2008 :D

I've used Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Windows 2000, ME, XP, Windows 2003, Vista Business and Ultimate. Best version of Windows yet....Windows ME! :evil laugh:

Of the versions I have used, 98SE was the most stable. I started out in about 1983 with an Atari home computer where every thing was done in DOS. The contrast between it and what we use today is a vast gulf. Right now I have a desktop running XP Media center edition, A compaq presario laptop2500 series useing XP Pro, toughbook with win2k, and My latest a HP pavilion tx1219, with Vista Home premium with tablet functions. Of all these plus NT 4.0 I think NT 4.0 was the worst that microsoft put out.

I didn't mind NT 4. Lack of USB support kind of sucked, but those were the days. My favorite Microsoft OS is 2k. It's XP without the extra crap you don't need. Too bad their not supporting it anymore. Vista is slow. I got a Core Duo 2GB of memory, a 7200RPM drive and it's still slow.

You're missing BOB (shudder) and Neptune (never offically released, so I guess maybe this one should not be on the list)...certainly not candidates for best though...

The best....hmmm, not sure I can say..certainly XP is the best thus far from an out of the box standpoint.

I've used most of them, but only a few were "gotta have"--OSs that I actually removed an existing OS for to get the new one.

    Windows 3.11 (Windows for Workgroups)
    Windows 95
    Windows XP

The rest were put on computers and died there. But those three made me actually reinstall and OS just because the new OS came out.

Windows 3.11 for its extraoridinary boost in disk performance
Wndows 95 for its new user interfact, integrated tcp/ip stack and dialer and enahnced graphic capabilities
Windows XP for 32-bit stability and numerous features

I actually think Vista is a better OS than XP, but it is not "gotta have" and performance is a little slow on my older hardware. It is not compelling enough to make me want to update everything I have, but over time I am sure I will migrate unless the stuff I have puts me within spitting distance of the new OS in 2010, which I doubt

lol BOB was terrible. My favorite version of windows was definitely 3.11 for workgroups followed by 98SE. I'm liking vista alot but I need the darn service pack already!

I've used DOS (forget which versions), windows 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, 2000, xp pro, and vista. Favouritest is 2000, and very close runner-up is xp pro.

I've used Windows 95, 98 and XP. Not much. Best version ever was of course XP SP2.

But best OS ever is OS X ;).

2K was the best and XP a very close second. Used ME too. And 98SE.

I hope though that Gates will let XP live many more years. For me, XP rules. Its pretty enough for me and as stable as an OS can get.

2K was the best but is getting a wee bit old now though. So, XP is my baby till at least 2010.

Windows 95 was revolutionary at the time.
98se had a long tenure, but not without its issues.
2000 was probably the best (performance and stability) version Microsoft has made (for its time).
VISTA is working nicely for me today, although it has its annoyances.

My order would probably be Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional, and then Windows 98 SE. I kinda wish I still had Windows 98 SE in fact, but I decided to remove it and put Windows 2000 on the old computer instead. But 98 was also very speedy, it just wasn't that stable. I haven't used Windows Vista extensively, but the number of times I have, I didn't find that I was really drawn to it.

the boot up time and incessent reboots for hardware upgrades for W2K is enough to cross it off my list...I've crown corn more quickly then I've booted up W2K...

I am actually fixing a malware infected W2k machine as we speak and the multiple reboots are KILLING me....

I used Windows 95, 98SE, 2000, ME, XP Home, XP Media Center, XP Pro, and Vista Business. Surprisingly... I like Vista business best. After some tweaking it runs pretty snappy, and I like the eye candy. I also liked XP pro more than home/media center because of the networking capabilities. It also makes me feel important. xP

I'd say for me it's Windows XP. I haven't had the best luck with it when compared to Linux, but it has been the best Windows OS for me.

Windows 2000 was terrible for me; I had BSODs all the time, terrible security issues with malware, and it was slow.

I unfortunately never got to use 98SE, but rather was stuck with 98 first edition. It was probably the worst I've ever used, as it crashed all the time.

Windows 95 was probably the second best just because it really brought computers to the mass. People claim it was the GUI, but Apple had a complete GUI OS years before that, so I don't buy it. I think people had just been using Windows 3.1 and enjoyed its stability and 95 brought a good UI for an OS they were used to.

You try out the Enhancement packs?

This article analyses the leaked Vista SP1 Beta and actually says it's a huge performance increase.

I think that Windows 98 was my favorite of all time. It was just kickass. Or 95. The old-school ones. Nostalgia :) But the best one I've used is XP Media. It's great.

I used every version after Windows 3.0 and most dos versions. Windows 2000 was the best for me. It was really the step up. XP is 2000 with bells, whistles and improvements. 2000 was the first OS I started using dual CPUS and encoding like there's no tomorrow.

Windows ME = Worst Windows Ever.

I have used all the major releases of windows since 3.0. Right now using Vista Ultimate on my Sony VAIO SZ483.

Personal favorite are Win 98SE & Win2k. I stayed with Win2k for 6 years before switching for a short while to WinXP, mainly because i hated the WinXP's poor excuse for a default UI (freak-show for color scheme & bloated UI element wasting good screen resource).

    In it's day NTSP6 was a rock.
WinME and all it's varients (95/98) blew chunks.
XP Pro has gotten very solid.
Vista is still a novelty toy which MS is trying to force everyone to change to. If you have any real work to do and don't like being a beta tester avoid it like the plague for at least a year. Vista's got some cool stuff, no doubt, but is still too buggy, unsupported by way too many hardware/drivers and there are way too many apps which not only will not run or play nice, but you have to spend bucks on to get new versions with features you don't need.

My vote today would have to be XP Pro.

I liked the way 98SE was laid out the most and also loved the themes it came bundled with. However, I vastly preferred the stability of XP.

Honestly, at this point I am very much a fan of the aesthetic appearance of Vista. I guess I wish there was an OS with the aesthetic design of Vista but the efficiency of XP Pro. Getting a Vista skin isn't QUITE good enough because there are some Vista features I like to play with :p

i agree vista does tend to give you progblems and you keep having to check microsoft site for fixes gets really anoyying,
i have used all the versions listed and my fav's has to be windows 2000 then followed by windows xp and then 98se,
also even though my server runs windows 2003 and i find it works perfectly hasnt given me any problems but i dont used it everyday just a software running on my server,
windows xp tablet edition is great only if you have a full tablet, if urs is a laptop with touch screen then dont even both, just useless who needs a on-screen keyboards, most of us will disable it then and now its back to windows xp.... :spinny:

Is there a reason this isn't a poll? I'd say 2000 is the best, as it's the last one you could actually use without activation crap, and XP is serviceable. More features in exchange for more lockdown.
