    Hey all,

I just got a Windows vista home premium laptop and need a virus software program. What would you guys suggest. So far i am thinking kapersky, nod32 or the free version of avast. I am open to anything but want to stay away from mcafee and norton. Also would anyone reccemend a firewall, or is the one that comes with vista good enough>?

I used to use the free Avast but after sometime of using it I went ahead and bought the Pro edition. They at least deserve to be compensated for their hard work. Norton is notorious for uninstalling.

    Hi Kanehi,

What are your perceived benefits in the Avast Pro edition over the Home edition?

@silver_horse Advanced user interface, scripts blocking, and some kind of scaning from command line. Nothing important for me,so I use free Home version.

Nothing really major. I would've stayed with the free one but since I've used it for a long time might as well pay for it.

    MadHater and kanehi:

I use the Home version too. I am thinking of getting the Pro version just as a form of saying thankyou to them for the great work that they have done.

I used to rely on McAfee but that didn't turn out too well. I am not too fond of Norton products. I think that Anti-Virus software should be built so independent of any other products. I just don't like it when they start piling the anti-virus software with other functionalities that are in someway off the focus of being a guard against viruses.

Go for AVG free edition ifyou don't want to spend anything, if money is no object, then NOD32 is the best AV out there.

I have always been partial to Symantec corp. edition, but not everyone has the $$ or company access to it.
