I'll start the ball rolling, although this is likely to cause a debate...

My recommend Opera 9.52. It's quick and has Speed Dial (this has been pinched by Firefox), built in which allows you to have 9 bookmarks with live thumbnails, giving you quick access to pages without touching the bookmarks list. It has Torrent downloading built in, maybe not as quick at Utorrent etc. but works fine. It also has mouse gestures so that you can add a new tab with a flick of the mouse. All of this comes as astandard without the need to download add-ons... like you do with Firefox and Safari (I've tried them out).

My advice is try them all and see which one suits your browing style.

    Just my 2p...

Yup, this has been dicussed loads before (note, i use the phrase "discussed")

In all honesty it's a personal taste issue.

like i said, try them all and choose which one YOU prefer, each person whos says "I like "@"$%^&*" because..., will be using there own opinion and this may not be the best for you.

    Just my 2p

    At home:
    1) Opera
    2) Firefox
    At work:
    1) Firefox
    2) Opera
Opera has this paste and go thing(you dont have to press enter everytime you paste an address) and speed dial, really neat. But Firefox has more support for codecs, running plugins etc. Opera does take less time to start on Vista though.

I can recommend both Firefox and Opera.

I use Opera because it has the, for me, better GUI, more functions and has features FF did not had in the past (like speed dial, mouse gestures, voice commands, scaleable websites including images, powerful history)
Now Firefox 3 has almost everything Opera has, and the missing things are upgradeable via Add-Ins.
I still prefer Opera because I'm used to it, it often has some innovative features, and I think it a tick faster and more stable.

However printing is not always good with Opera. That's why I use FF sometimes or even IE if I want to print a strange website.

My bowser history was something like:
IE - Opera (with ads) - Mozilla - Firefox - Opera (but FF also installed)

There is no best browser. Here's a short list of pros and cons of each:

    Internet Explorer:
    It's preinstalled...

    Firefox 3:
Plugins really make this the best versatile browser, but it's bloated and can be slow. Best not to run on older, slower computers

Opera: Much faster browsing speed than FF, but little to no good plugins/widgets. It does have the ability to use Opera widgets though, but they're aren't very useful.

So for example, if you need to debug a website like me, you use FF...if you want to browse the internet quickly and without any fusses (and without receiving any extra information from plugins like weather, etc) you use Opera.

Firefox = most robust, the add-ons are irreplaceable. ( MY FAVORITE)
    Opera = Fastest.
IE7 = standard default, so I guess it has the best windows integration. :p
Safari = Neatest & almost as fast as Opera.
Netscape = Bootleg Firefox, Some Firefox add-ons work with it, some don't.

I can't agree with you anymore. Firefox's ad-dons are priceless, they help in so many ways, and there are so many to chose from.

    Firefox gets my vote.

I have to give my pledge of satisfaction to Opera. It served me and my 6 year old laptop well. Kept snappy with multiple tabs opened, with great and stable performance. Wish I could say the same for Firefox, but that was 2 years ago. I heard FF3 is a lot better.

To be fair, Firefox does have lots of plugins. I found a lot of them useful, but many of them just hindered the performance (I was a plug-in whore). Opera has a fair amount of features (many that I used as plugins on FF) tucked into its package without much of a hit in performance.

    Opera +1

Firefox 3.1 is supposed to have some big Javascript performance improvements but you have to set a hidden setting to turn it on. Basically they are going from an interpreted Javascript model to a just-in-time compiler for Javascript loop code. I did my own build of FF 3.1 and it is a nice performer.

One of the nicest things about FF is that you can download the source code and build it yourself. You can turn on higher optimization levels for newer processors and take advantage in hardware improvements. The official Firefox kit has to provide support for older processors making it harder to use compiler optimizations targetting specific processors.

And of course there's Firefox x64 native.
