Sounds like a custom slipstreamed W7. You really trust something from The Pirate's Den? At best, those automatically installed programs and drivers are bloated, adware, and outdated. At worst, the tweaks could result in system instability and open your system up to security risks. What if it came from a malicious source that injected malware into it?

If you are on W7 a new version of W7 will not improve much the gaming capability. Not much more than any new installation that is of the OS. Now there are some tweaks which will improve it slightly but nothing of major impact, unless your current install is performing poorly.

Your OS actually doesn't have much to-do about gaming. Operating systems are mainly just there to provide a (usually minimum) middleman between the hardware and userspace programs (like your games). If you want to have a slightly more meaningful boost in gaming performance by messing about with lower-level software, download the latest GPU drivers from nVidia/AMD directly. And, if load times are just massive, get a SSD.

Even if load times are not massive a SSD is a great upgrade.

The operating system and how it is set up has a lot to do with gaming. For someone who is ultra competitive and trying to get latency, stutter, and lag down to a minimum, there is a lot of variation. Just like how most people think that beats headphones sound good, most people think that their gaming computer is running really well.

I trust those Windows OS mods. I have used them from time to time. Just a much more pleasurable experience than what MS gives you.

The majority of those alterations won't make a difference to the performance. The NVidia and ATI drivers could help - but you could get these directly without needing a custom OS. The third party software may have some vaguely useful things but it's probably better to check them out individually and install them fresh from their source - or not, as they may well be loaded to the mamories with malware. The 'Gamebooster' software actually looks vaguely interesting since you can toggle off Windows background services while you're gaming; although, personal prejudice makes me inclined to think that it isn't a benevolent program which rains dollar bills from heaven and drops Megan Fox into your bed.

Would be interesting to see what has been altered in DirectX to make it more suitable for 'extreme' gaming...

I would never install any OS mod. From what I can see, all those changes can be done manually, and I've been a very hardcore gamer for the last 17y, I never needed any mod to be competetive. The only mod I ever installed was Leatrix Latency Fix, but no idea, if that one is necessary anymore.
