best windows repair, IMHO, is to use the OS disc and do an in-place repair.. you can select the option to repair during bootup..

Btw, I wouldn't be surprised if the NBR Pro' recommend a fresh/clean install, particularly for your scenario.

I second the above - boot from the original OS disc and use the Repair process. It will replace the majority of important system files used by Windows. If that doesn't fix the problem, reinstalling Windows might be easier than hunting down the problems one by one.

same advice here. reinstall=hassle-free repair. cuz you don't even have to know what's wrong.

Well, for sure reinstalling would be nice.. but I would *first* try the repair with the OS disc, because if its an issue that *can* be fixed with the OS disc repair, then it saves lot of time getting in all the program' we want n stuff....

Else, yeah.... I agree > reinstall!

Back up your important data and format/reinstall Windows.

How about doing a system restore back to a point where everything was working correctly.

As fonduekid was saying, try the repair option first. Performing Repair Installation! <-- For XP

Then if that fails a System Restore is always a big help.
