What do you guys think are the best Windows themes and addons? I've always seen a lot of people doing a major overhaul of their desktop, but I've never really seen anything as amazing for download.

I have also been looking for a while, but so far all I found worth my money was ObjectDock Plus. Now I can see my pretty background :D

but look at other products from stardock, they have some very nice stuff

I use Object Dock and LogonStudio. Both are from Stardock. I use Deviantart to find themes

As for add ons I use rocket dock to clean my desktop up. As for themes and such I just use the standard as they look just fine, and if I feel like stepping it up a notch Ill enable aero for that awesome transparent look.

Buy/download WindowsBlinds. There are thousands of cool themes to choose from. Been using it for years. :)

Best is subject to change by the persons opinion when it comes to art and things that can't be scientifically measured. I suggest you just install a crap load and check them out for yourself until you find one you love.

I have tried to mess with themes for my notebook, but due to the changing of official files, I had major problems with it afterwards. (And I did back up the files.) Now I just stick with the regular vista theme and use object dock. But for those who can change themes w/o problems, kudos.

I use both; I use the dock as a replacement for desktop icons.

My only desktop icon is my recycle bin :D

Oh and I forgot to mention I use Rainlendar as a calendar and to-do list. I tried many different skins for it but I found the default one to be the most useful so I kept it.

Cool stuff for windows desktops. Docks are awesome, but do not use object dock with it's cpu and hdd monitor, it actually takes up like 8% of your cpu which is horrible. use rocket dock, its much better and FREEEEEEEEE.

if you want a cool theme get alienguise. It lets you have alienware themes on your desktop, but if you don't have an alienware then you just look like a fool.

The only way to have it. ;)

A lot of desktop icons = longer boot time.

I'm just sticking with Windowblinds right now using Novum 1.6. I haven't found a good XP theme in a long time. Most of the new themes seem to be Vista clones which is pretty boring.

Do desktop icons really slowdown start-up? I didn't think they had any real effect.

?? I never said anything about file copying. I find it quicker to press the Windows key and start typing the program that I want than to click around on the right icon. Plus, I can access all of my programs that way, not just the ones on my dock.

I modify the themes downloaded from DeviantArt(with the permission of authors). I also use ObjectDock, Rainmeter and Avedesk.

I got rid of Recyle Bin as well, and now have zero desktop icons :). I leave it enabled since other peoples are sometimes confused by an un-enabled desktop, though - they try to drag files there and it fails, or download stuff to the desktop and then don't see it. But anyways, TweakUI is a great desktop icon modifying tool ;).

He's referring to the file transfer thing that's present in the screenshot you linked to. File transfer did seem fairly slow in Vista when I had Vista - slower than XP. It's not like snail's pace or anything, but it certianly could be better. They did supposedly make it faster in SP1, but not yet up to XP standards.

I've yet to find any really compelling alternate Windows theme, and Luna works well with me, so I just use Luna, and TweakUI for a few relatively minor customizations.

Oh haha I didn't even look at the screenshot this time around. I was just happy I found the site where I got the theme from!
