i'm currently using thunderbird, however, i just wanted to see if there were any other e-mail clients worth trying. i've been using thunderbird for a few years...

recently i've switched browsing from firefox to chrome, and chrome seems to be much snappier and faster than firefox ever was for me. i was wondering if there were any email clients that had the same quick responsiveness.

I used to use Thunderbird, but now use Outlook 2007 and it's great. However, it's not free nor is it snappier than Thunderbird. Windows Live Mail is pretty snappy, but I like Thunderbird better than WLM.

outlook 2007 works great and i didn't find better choice than outlook 2007

but if you dont like outlook or WLM you could try the yahoo email client its called Zimbra

and there is a new email client for windows and linux but its still in beta version its called SpiceBird

You may like Chrome's "save as application shortcut" feature. That is if you use a web based email service like gmail.

    - first log into your gmail (or other) website with Chrome
    - Click the icon on the upper right of the chrome browser (does it have a name?), it says "control the current page" when you hover your curser over it.
    - click "create application shortcut"
    - configure it how you want it

You now have an application that launches inside of a chrome browser to read your web email, but all of the browser features like the navigation buttons, and the address bar are removed.

After using this for a while I found I liked it quite a bit.

You sir, are my new hero.

First, you could not pry Outlook 2007 from my hands without a crowbar, but I am constantly running into people who need a client that works with Yahoo. While outlook can do Yahoo if you have yahoo plus, your SOL with regular Yahoo.

Zimbra looks very promising--never even heard of it.

    +rep for you

I was using Outlook 2007, but I found it very laggy and a huge resource pig. I've now switched to Thunderbird, and couldn't be happier.

It probably depends what sort of email system it is that you're connecting to. POP3? IMAP? Hosted Exchange? Do you need contact management and calendering? Do you need to sync contacts/calendars with a mobile device?

Outlook 2007 is probably the "best" if you need all of those things.

Zimbra is great, so is their Collaboration Suite as an alternative to Exchange.

For those of you who want to access Yahoo via POP3 for free with Outlook or Thunderbird:

    1) Use YPops! (although I've heard rumors that you can't send e-mails, only recieve)

    2) Go to your Yahoo! Mail settings and change preferred content to Yahoo! Asia (and Asia only). For some reason, Yahoo! has decided to enable POP3 and Forwarding for Yahoo! Asia customers, but seemed to forgot about Yahoo! America. Anyways, if you change your preferred content to Asia, you can enable POP3 and it gives you the settings right away.

    Hope this helped.
