I was curious what is a good free partition manager software that'll work w/ 64-bit vista? I need to make a partition that's to the RIGHT extend a volume to the LEFT, which apparently vista can't do itself. EASEUS was recommended but it's only free w/ 32-bit windows. Any suggestions?

hmmm you could burn a gparted livecd. (Or you could burn an ubuntu install disc, which contains gparted.)

Alternatively, Paragon Partition Manager's paid version supports 64-bit and has a 30-day free trial ... maybe Easeus does too, I'm not sure. A bunch of the paid products have free trials though I think.

I'm not sure if either can exactly extend a partition leftward... maybe they can, but if not then maybe you could move it leftward and extend it rightward.

EDIT: Or the Ultimate Boot CD can probably get it done with one tool or another... but yeah I agree that free partition managers for 64-bit Vista are definitely lacking.

Hmm that stinks that it's so tricky. I installed W7 RC on a partition I made with Vista, but now that partition is running out of space so I wanted to shrink my vista partition (which is on the left) a bit more, and expand the 7 partition. Hmm. Well the official release is only like 6 months away give or take, and i'll hafta get rid of the RC then anyways, maybe i'll just use the RC sparingly so as not to have it take up anymore space, then just format it and fully re-expand my vista partition when the final build of 7 comes out, and just install 7 over vista

You know, not everything has to be all in one partition... you can create a second partition to the left of the W7 partition, and just store data on it. And/or put your swap file there. (Maybe hibernate file too if it lets you move that, I'm not sure.) You can even use the new partition for data you want to share between the two OSes, and access it from each one.
