The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

New to NBR and figured I'd start a thread based on what I love: web design and development. Here are the tools and spoonfed freebies I've used to learn, understand, design, and develop websites. Pretty short list and by no means exhaustive :p , would love to hear what you guys use. Feel free to ask questions!

    Easy HTML & CSS tutorials
HTML Dog (Elegant website for getting into HTML coding)
W3Schools (The standard source to pore over. Has 'see the code in action' examples scattered throughout)

    HTML WYSIWYG editors
NVU editor (Easy to use tool that lets you mess arond with the look of your HTML)

    HTML code editor
Notepad ++ (Meet notepad on steriods. My personal favorite for messing with any kind of code. It highlights <start> and </end> tags and applies visually pleasing auto-coloring. Also has tabs)

    Blog and content stuff
Wordpress (Easy to install on your own host without any knowledge of html or PHP. Great forums for support. Many contributions including security and SEO)
Beautiful WP Templates I've used (list 1)
Beautiful WP Templates I've used (list 2)

Javascipt nibblets (without knowing the code)
75 Useful Javascript Techniques (My favorite list to easily spruce up your website. Includes demos and walk-though installation guides. Great for slide shows, galleries, and more)

    Photoshop Tutorials
PDSTUTS website (Fun psd tutorials from photoshop gurus. Many screenshots and detailed walk-throughs.)

    After your site is up

Google Analytics (Free and installation takes less than 5 minutes. Measures many helpful metrics, like bounce rate, that help you grow and improve your site)

    FlashDevelop

Destroys Flash's default IDE and much better for programming in AS3.0!
