I think Avast Free is the best, also it has browser protection.

agree with John.
if you use the free avast remember to turn on windows firewall as you only get avast firewall in the paid version. -
Avast as well. I used norton for years and got tired of paying for upgrades. Firewall isn't too much of a concern since most routers have that protection built in but still turn on the windows firewall AND defender (avast and defender work fine together).

Best Protection: Avast!
Good Protection yet light-weight without interference: Microsoft Security Essentials -
Avast positives: better signature detection, and a sandbox.
Norton positives: more levels of protection including the best cloud and behaviour detection in the business.
Both are very light on the system and both are generally nice products.
Can't really say Avast Pro offers much value for money though. It's a fine product, but the free version offers the same level of protection. -

The problem with a common anti-virus, is more virus writers will be working to get around it`s protection, so i normally keep away from "Microsoft Security Essentials " , by the comments above Avast is becoming a lot more common also maybe it`s time to find a new anti-virus, I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 on my Notebook as i get it free with my Internet Banking, I have Avast on my Netbook as it is a lot lighter on cpu and memory compared to Kaspersky.

with what tindebox is saying above you get what you pay for.
Personnaly I've been using Norton since 2009 and have yet to have a problem...yes I pay for it, but it's one less thing i have to worry about. -
thanks for the info! As it is totaly unanimus ill go for Avast.
