Just got a new laptop with windows 7. However I find internet explorer still has the same problems it always had. I have used firefox in the best but don't love it and I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good ones with greater stability than IE

It depends on what you want and need.
For maximum compatibility use IE.
For an easy and fast browser use Chrome.
For a full fledged browser use Opera.
For an easy to use and extend browser use Firefox.
Safari, never really used it, except I had to work on a Mac.
All of them have advantages and disadvantages. No one is perfect. -
I stick with IE, for me, its fast, reliable, and i love being able to drag and drop websites along the top bar, for me thats a win.

Oh boy, not one of these threads again... no offense to the OP. You can try searching for browsers using NBR's search function, as there have been many debates in the past about "the best browser."
More on topic, I find Internet Explorer 8 to be a very good browser, given a few preference tweaks and the addition of a mouse gestures plugin. Mainly, though, I use Opera, which I find to be the perfect browser for me. -
I use Firefox with a few changes to make it faster. Google something like "make firefox faster" and thats what i did. Runs fine. Never had a problem with IE but i just prefer FF. I only use Safari on Macs.

If I'm not using Firefox for what ever reason, I'm using Opera, great browser imo
-
In my experience, any of the major alternative browsers for Windows (which have all been mentioned) are more stable than IE. Theoretically, Chrome has an advantage in that one tab crashing won't bring the whole browser down, but Opera and Firefox (and possibly Safari as well, though I don't use it enough to know) are stable enough for stability to usually be a non-issue there as well.
But it's hard to know which one to recommend without knowing what you dislike/feel is missing from Firefox. I like Opera most, but my reasons for liking it might be irrelevant for you. -
Oh no, not another one of these. They almost always end up in a flame war...
Oh well. I'm currently using Firefox at the moment. I find it fairly good.
That is all. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
There's one of these each time a new-improved version or browser is released...
I use Opera 10.10, awaiting 10.5 which when i tesetd the alpha was very quick.
I have used Firefox and Safari but, didn't like the interface, i find Opera or IE to be the simplest but, Opera seems more secure.
Just my 2p.

Firefox for me. IE has always been sluggish for me, and I can't get into the webkit browser hype, esp. when both Safari and Chrome get dog slow after a week or so, at least in my experience.
Firefox just works for me, it has the add-ons that make life on the web a bit easier for me, and is always a consistently quick performer. -

Chrome's extension for Adblocks is not good enough for me.
In my case, it either doesn't block ads properly, or blocks certain things that aren't supposed to be blocked (an issue I never exerienced with FF's Adblock).
Personally, I'm using FF and it works for me. -
Just from my Experience with 64bit W7 ie8, firefox as well. The only instability I have is with Opera. I tried chrome but found it not impressive. As I use them IE8 has become my primary browser, with FF than Opera.
-
Opera here. I am using the 10.5 pre alpha. I have about one crash a day with intensive use.
-
Chrome isn't very secure nor private. There is, of course, Iron, but... I wouldn't recommend Chrome to anyone.
Firefox needs extensions to be truly great. -
I use FF because of the addons, but Chrome is nice too, and you can get a few of the most important features of FF (blocking ads) with some Chrome addons, now, too.
I haven't used IE in years, and don't see that changing any time soon. -
CHROME man , its all about speed , people taking about security ---> are u followed by NASA ?? , and if u r tracked by NASA r that kind of people they ll get ya any way
-
I use FF. It seems so much faster than IE, but I also use Opera.
-
-
i've used FF since 2003, i got me a new laptop with win 7 this year.
i tried the ie8 and i'm loving it. i havent even downlaoded FF.
i'm getting no pop-ups from ie8 like the old onces where there's pop up everywhere. -
Using Firefox here as well. IE is fast and good BUT it makes my laptop's CPU work more than Firefox, waaay more, especially when I have a lot of tabs open.
-
Definitely FireFox! Small enough app & easy to use. It also doesn't seem to have half of the bugs IE sometimes does.
-
Firefox for me mostly because of the few extensions I use, but also because I have all the keyboard shortcuts memorized
IE 8 has some slightly different shortcuts but is overall good, and Chrome has about the same shortcuts as FF, but lacking in the extensions I like to use.
-
Maxthon is the best for me.
-
If you decide you don't need the extensions of Firefox, you can try Chrome, that's what I switched to. The IE in Windows 7 has crashed on me a lot, so I don't recommend that one.
-
-
I have always been a Firefox user for as long as I can remember. I still use it here and there but as more support and amount of extensions Chrome is getting, I am slowly switching due to its pure speed.
-
I just use them all. I alternate just for the fun of it
-
Which problems are those. I find ie8 the most stable, with the least compatibility problems, with some improvements borrowed from other browsers. Firefox is second, better for add-ons and download safety. I was impressed with Opera initially but it does become unstable. They all are fast.

Windows:
Firefox is the best, since it rids you of the junk and superfluous information (ads with adblock plus addon). Chrome has a way of achieving the same result using a profile switch and an add on, but it's implementation is not as good. I love Chrome, though, because it is very fast, and I believe it will only get better.
Linux:
Firefox/Iceweasal
Lynx
Note that I'm a KDE user and prefer it over Gnome. -
-
I like chrome or was that already mentioned?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Chrome is my favorite, but I also am using Opera 10.5 Alpha and trying to cut loose from my former favorite (Firefox).
-
-
Chrome, Iron, lol. That's funny.
-
its a subjective thing
people like different ones
i like IE and hate firefox -
Browser choice is NOT a subjective thing.
Security and Stability should always be the first considerations.
Anyone who sticks with a known-insecure browser because of the UI or 'coolness' factor is setting themselves up for security problems. -
-
I use Chrome for my personally usage (but there are a few things that I anny me about it)
And IE for work and school because other browsers dont work with those sites.
It helps keep the bookmarks strait to. -
Just had another FF breakdown, multiple tabs for a long period and it just froze. It was eating up RAM even on a 64 bit unit. It has not happened with IE8 yet.
-
It seems the German govt doesn't like IE: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8463516.stm
