    Hi all.
I want to convert my music from MP3 to other types and vice versa, but since I've been out of the loop for a while now, I have no clue about what program to use. I'm just wondering if you guys know any good ones.
    Any idea will be appreciated.

Format Factory is great for videos (haven't tried for music yet) while iTunes is pretty good at audio conversion.

What's that one sofware called? "Super" - it does video as well as audio.
    Its quite processor intensive though.

Xilisoft is really good, it can convert from and to every format. The interface is really easy to understand. I can even decide how many CPU cores it is using while its converting my files!

The best audio converters are probably foobar and dBpoweramp. You can download plugins for both foobar and dBpoweramp to support more codec. If you're proficient at programming, make your own converter base off the ffmpeg codec. It support tonnes of a/v formats.

BTW.. nice speedtest numbers 145Mbit down and 30Mbit up

My $15 per month high speed internet only gets 30Mbit down and 500Kbit up

$15 CAD , not USD. So that's about $10 USD. LOL

I have shaw highspeed internet with a rated speed of 7.5Mbit/s + powerboost feature with "unlimited" bandwidth. Since i'm an early customer with shaw, they kept our price low, they gave us HDTV service for $20/month.
Even though my internet package speed rating is only 7.5Mbit/s with 60GB of bandwidth per month, they somehow forgot to cap my download speed and they didn't care about my bandwidth ussage.

Too bad my wireless network and my 99cents router from bestbuy can't handle this much bandwidth. I'm only getting 15Mb/s average bandwidth over my wireless G network.

If you're paying Telus $40/month.. why not switch to shaw
    http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsServices/Internet/High-Speed/

    $40 standalone price
7.5Mbit/s rated speed + free modem + free powerboost ...etc
Usually.. you get about 20-25Mbit/s bandwidth for the frist 5 minutes.. then shaw cap your download speed back to 7.5Mbit/s. The speed is awesome for websurfing and small downloads. Torrenting speed isn't that bad either.

    select output format
drag the file you want to convert into window

right click anywhere on the window to access the menu if u want to change settings (took me a year to find out <== epic fail lol)

It converts just about anything to my iPod along with anything else.

Seriously though, give Format Factory a try. I also have Xilisoft Audio Converter and it does the trick for most things. Not free however.

Since MP3 is lossless there is not good reason to convert it to anything.

If you have the original cd's rip it to wave and encode it with NeroAAC its the best lossless codec its higher quality and lower size than mp3 or wma.

You can store the AAC encoded file in a .mp4 or .m4a container.

For video the best encoder is x264 it uses H264 codec and its the best codec for video offering high compression & high quality.

Remember when converting any file from one type or another your losing quality unless your using a lossless codec so you should work with the lossless source files as much as possible or keep them in the state they are in.

Isn't mp3 lossy codec, unless you're referring to the new lossless mp3 standard.

Wma professional 10 is a better codec than AAC codec unless you're referring to AAC-HD. In that case, it offers the same performance and compression ratio as WMA 10 Professional. There seems to be more devices which are compatible with WMA 10 Professional codec than AAC-HD. E.g. Zune, computer and windows mobile smart phones.
