I use zune for video podcast.

WMP, it's native, it's quick, works relatively well for organizing music and finding artists and what not. A music player is a music player, they all play music. If you want something a bit more showing you can go with the Zune software, which is really flashy.
-
bump, any more opinions?

I kinda like the Zune software. As long as all your music is tagged properly...
-
I still use winamp v2.95, fastest MP3 player but I like MPC and the AC3Filter EQ. AC3Filter gives you more options on audio out, wider frequency... winamp stops at 50Hz the lowest for bass, AC3Filter has 30Hz the lowest for the bass (yes I could tell the difference) and a lot more audio options so I'd say MPC and AC3Filter are my best. The MP3 decoder (filter) used is Fraunhofer.
-
I use the Zune software and like it a lot, however I usually use WMP12 for watching DVDs or sometimes VLC Player if I'm feeling adventurous.
-
I buy my music off itunes, and mostly listen to it on windows media center, or media player. Depending on what im doing. I notice dpc latency only on itunes and RARELY on WMP or WMC because their so light.
-
Windows Media Player 12 64-bit for movies/videos's - Zune for music. I don't use VLC, though. I like WMP12 as it's fast to open... it's instant actually, and as you can see on my signature, I don't have a very fast computer. I don't know why.. I really like WMP12 for movies/video's, I guess it's the ultra simplest UI that it provides. -
WMP would probably be adequate to cover the basics.
I personally use VLC player for all my media files and have no issues. -
VLC is what I use 99% of the time.
-
I use WMP12 for pretty much everything. It's quick, light and in my experience very stable.
-
I use WMP12 for DVDs and videos. Use Zune software for music and to sync to my Zune HD. Every once in a while I use VLC player. Have had used Mediamonkey as well, but since I got my Zune, I stopped using it. Love the Zune software.

To addon to my previouw post going for WMP, if you throw in some handy plugins, I find it to really perform well for my needs. Throw in a codec pack ( CCCP is a good one), and few plugins (like CatenaLogic's Bookmark Plugin (enables resume)), I find myself really liking WMP more and more.
-
CCCP is designed for XP.. it overrides Windows Vista/7 built-in codecs.
Also, it's only in 32-bit.
I recommend Shark007 codec pack -
Foobar2000 is great it's just kind of hard to get a good theme to work.
-
I used both Songbird and Foobar for over a year each; when I upgraded to Win7 I used WMP for a while. I actually liked it. Then I tried MediaMonkey. I prefer it to WMP in a few key ways, most notably the MILKDROP and better iPod support!
I guess I may have to try AIMP2 based on reccomendations here.
Still use WMP on my UL30A though. -
WMP 12 can't properly display Chinese song titles... So Songbird gets my vote.
-
-
I think I might stop using Foobar for the first time in a few years. I almost never use its more advanced features anymore, and WMP actually seems decent enough.
Now if only WMP could display .srt subtitles I'd use it exclusively for movies as well. -
the only thing you need is to install direct show filter [vsfilte]
here is the link http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VSFilter_DirectVobSub -
There really is no best music player. It depends on your needs.
If there was a "best music player", though, it'd totally be Foobar. -
-
foobar2000 and MediaMonkey > all others lol.

Hey guys.
I've been using iTunes mostly because I like the UI... I don't like looking at the Album Artwork or anything, I just like seeing a non-complicated list of the Artists, Song Name, and Albums.
However, lately it's been taking up a lot of RAM (45,000k) and it's getting kind of ridiculous.
Any music players that would suit my needs? I think the new Windows Media Player UI is terrible because it doesn't just give the Song names, Artist, and Album name... it gives me the album artwork and a bunch of extra crap I don't want. -
Foobar would meet all your need pretty much perfectly.
-
I have stuck with Quintessential Media Player ever since I got the Beta Version on a PC Magazine CD I once bought, I have had a great experience with it, and it is customizable.
I cannot really say that I have tried much out there, though, I have only tried Winamp other than Quintessential Media Player, and Amarok on Linux.
Sadly, the last update to Quintessential Media Player was v5.0 on February 18th, 2009, the development has halted several times throughout its development, the plug-in's system and ability are nice. -
-
I just use WMP12. It's there, does the job more than good, play's everything if you have some mega codec.
-
Tried Foobar... tried customizing it and stuff from guides online.
I absolutely loved the speed and how much RAM it took for me (only 6,000K vs. iTunes 45,000K), but it the UI, while simple, didn't flow very well, and the Quicksearch bar I downloaded I never got to work, after troubleshooting for about 2 hours I just gave up and uninstalled it.
Downloaded Winamp, and used it for 20 minutes. My take on Winamp is it's just a crappier version of iTunes... cheezy looking UI, same system resources taken as iTunes.
Looks like I'm stuck with iTunes for now. -
You don't even need a search component for Foobar. One comes built-in.
Works perfectly fine without needing to be configured, as well. Alternately, you can just hit Ctrl+F.
Maybe give VUPlayer a try. Doesn't get much lighter and simpler than that.

Thanks man, in the screenshot for VUPlayer it looks like it doesn't have a search bar... is there one?
-
Edit - I take it back. Foobar is using up more RAM on my system. -
Right now I just use WMP12 til my new lappy arrives..it works fine for me.

I never tried but can WMP integrate with the IPOD and move songs to it?
-
Blame apple for it.

I use and like iTunes. Although it is like a spreadsheet, it does the job well and it is easy to navigate.
-
I pretty much just use iTunes
-
Zune player, fast and elegant, good organisation of music and a damn fine slideshow/now playing look.
-
I just use WMP12. Zune Player looks pretty cool, though!
-
Using Foobar2000, good thing is that it doesn't come with tons of useless crap like most other music players, causing it to start up very fast and uses very little system resources.
-
I'd been trying to remember the name of this one for ages. Finally was able just a bit ago. Installed the trial but as soon as I went to run it, it told me my trial had expired. Ha. So I went into my e-mail and looked up the serial from when I bought it for someone as a gift more than two years ago now. And it let me register it. It's called MP3Toys. Very solid player. Nice interface, responsive, and easy on the eyes.

On my windows machines I use WMP 12 and zune software, and itunes on the mac.
I do love the ability to stream my WMP collection over the web to other computers, but the zune software is just so much better.
And itunes.... because its there. -
I use Zune software and VLC when I listen to lossless and .FLAC files! :O
I neevr really enjoyed WMP, I kept lagging.. And I hate with pasison everything that is Mac-related, so Itunes is a non-sens. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I tried using the zune last night and I had nothing but problems..
I wanted to listen to some rise against. It said can't play explicit content without signing in, so tried to create an account. I tried about 10 times and every time i type in my username, it crashes and said zune has stopped working.
Forget that, I don't want a program that makes me do all sorts of stuff. Im sticking with itunes. -
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I just have itunes, and its pretty much a fresh w7 install, ran tests and nothing has evee come up.
Besides that fact, i dont like programs that limit you. I dont want to have to sign in (or even have to make an account) just to prove my age, which is why i hate xbox live.
Microsoft pushes people away with their parental controls and account making. -
Songbird, its amazingly customizable and functional. And Zune 4.0 for my Zune HD.
-
Most people have a Live or Hotmail account, especially after Internet music/video streaming in Windows Media Player 12.
And you don't have to provide your real birth date and location on your account.
For me its:
- Windows Media Player 12 64-bit for video's (64-bit codecs, internet streaming, network streaming, instant startup when double clicking on multimedia format (loads a light version of the program))
- Zune for music and my good old Zune 120 -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I created an itunes account when they didn't ask for any credit card information or addresses. At least I can listen to all my music in itunes anyways, i could live without cover art, but I can still get it because I didn't give any information to them.
I also like wmp12 because it is very fast. -
I've actually read that WMP12 for 7 is vastly superior to previous versions. Perhaps consider that as an option.
