Ok so i have a laptop with this spec

    2.0ghz core2duo santa rosa
    4gb ram
    8600m gs
    1 gb turbo cache

I am currently using windows vista 32bit adressing about 3gb ram of 4gbram and currently my turbo cache is bugged so i need to format the laptop to make use of it.

Ok so you guys out there which os do you recommend to go for?
Does turbo cache work under xp?

So if i re-install vista 32bit im going to get 1gb more turbo cache.

If i get xp im going to loose 1gb turbo cache and dx10 in which i don't really care because im soon getting a new pc for the new dx10 mmo and an 8600m gs isn't powerfull enuf to handle dx10.

So will i see a performance increase going to xp from vista or will i loose performance because i loose my 1gb turbo cache under xp?

Judging from the responses from many people who have downgraded to XP, i would say you should see a significant performance increase with XP. As for the turbo cache, are you talking about the NVIDIA turbo cache? or the robson turbo memory? i think you mean the robson turbo mem for which you are correct in your assumption that it is not supported in XP. From what i have read about the Robson turbo mem, it doesnt give all that much of a performance increase anyway. So if you are looking for better gaming performance, better application compatability, and an overall increase in system speed, I would personally go with XP. Although you will loose that last 1gb of mem because XP only uses about 3gb but i think XP would still perform better. Hope this helps!

im really starting to hate vista because i had to speed alot of time tweaking various programs to get them to work.i even have to refresh my drivers sometimes because sound keeps getting all very bad and even framerates start to drop.

Bdw since im using vista 32bit i am still getting 3Gb instead of 4GB right?if that is it then i dont think il be getting 1gb more from the system memory i will only gain 1gb from the santa rosa cache memory

If you're "really starting to hate" Vista, it's time to go XP. The chances that you'll ever really like an OS that you're "really starting to hate" are pretty slim, and if it does eventually occur it'll likely be after a good long time away from it so the feelings of hate can fade into nothingness.

(not just being philosophical - I really did enjoy XP much more after I switched to it after having really started to hate Vista)

From the sounds of it you will be happier with XP.
