Basically, I am trying to provide support to someone, remotely. I want to make it as easy as possible for them, and I need access to their computer.

    What's the best solution?

    edit:

host platform is windows, the client platform (me) can be anything.

obviously "no work" is a bit unrealistic, "as little work as possible" will suffice

I always use Crossloop, the free version.

Works very well, all you need is the access code from the other person.

    teamviewer

can even be set up so that the host doesn't even need to be there.

    indeed.

on the host, say "go to www.teamviewer.com", then click quick support (or what ever it's named in english, the second button it is), run, and tell me the numbers.

on the controller side, only a flash capable browser is needed. if on windows, you can install the software, too.

    Another vote for Teamviewer :)

Although if you need to show something Skype might do the trick too :)

(Thanks Serg for introducing me to the Screen showing feature)

True, but I thought that's more for just getting remote access to your own machine (one way) instead of sharing a screen/remote assistance. :)

It is, but my sense is the person the OP is trying to help is so computer illiterate that watching him fix it isn't going to do either of them any good so I tossed LM in as another alternative
