As I get this zv5000z configured (and I'm sure it'll pretty much be the same for most other notebooks), if I do decide to go the XP w/ SP2 route instead of Win2k Pro, I'm curious what experiences people are having with what security apps are having the least problems coping with SP 2 (such as Anti-Virus, Anti-spyware, firewall, etc.) I'm sure some of you have had challenges with some of these apps since you've put SP 2 in, and I'm sure there are some apps that have kept running rock solid after the upgrade. Let's hear about those experiences so as people get new laptops, they can get poductive as quickly as possible, without having to worry about the apps they've just installed treating them to everone's FAVORITE screen saver, the B.S.O.D. [ :(] Lookin' forward to the feedback.

    Cheers,

    Stevo

In most cases, you mainly need an Anti-Virus program and a Popup killer. Windows XP has a built-in firewall, so it's not needed. If you installed SP2, there's also a better Firewall and also has a Popup killer built-in. So, you just need an AV program. Some users have said AVG works pretty good. Also, it's free.

When surfing, the reason why there's so much spyware located in peoples systems, is because they click on YES to every popup. Selecting NO is your best option. A good popup killer will eliminate the remaining 90% of popups.

The more software you have running in the background, the slower your system will perform. With SP2 installed, all you really need is a good AV program.
