As it says in the title, I am looking for the best possible way to sync at a minimum my Outlook calendar, but ideally also Outlook tasks to the Google equivalents, without screwing up my existing Outlook profile. If I can also sync my email (including multiple folders in multiple PST files) that would be great, but I don't dare hope there's a rational way to do this.

And, no, I do not want to use that piece of garbage of Google Apps Sync... I'll be happy to pay for a commercial solution that works properly, however.

I've been looking for a solution myself for a long time. Switched from Thunderbird to Outlook but I am not sure what to think about Outlook:

Syncing Google Calender seems only possible with this google app sync (why is it bad?) but I never tried it.
Using a VPN/SSH-Tunnel to encrypt network traffic was rly pain in the with Outlook and seems kinda buggy.
When using Gmail IMAP Outlook is really slow. Switching between folders causes random freezes. Junk-Filter doesn't work as good as with Thunderbird. Reading/Opening mails is really slow.

Will bookmark this thread to see if anyone finds some solution... I couldn't find any :/

Google Apps Sync will force you to create a second Outlook profile, which is customized to work with Google in various inscrutable ways. Worse, you cannot deal well with multiple PST files. If you just have a single PST file, you might be able to make this work. With several PSTs, which I have, it's a nightmare.

There's also Google Calendar Sync if all you need is calendar synchronization (and not Outlook Tasks). I am currently using that. It can only do one calendar (your main calendar), and, typical for Google stuff, is really basic and has a number of stupid quirks (only simple timed synchronization is available, and if you set it to sync, say, once an hour, it will do the first sync an hour after startup...), but otherwise it works kind of o.k. I'm just looking for something a little better, with support for multiple calendars maybe, sync at Outlook startup/exit, Tasks, etc...

I am already thinking about switching to smth different. Either @outlook.com (which will support activesync and works great with the new outlook) or a different mail client.

Do you also notice a mature slow down/freezing with google-mail and outlook compared to thunderbird ?

I have never used TBird, and, unfortunately, the only reason I am forced to put up with this Google cr@p is that our IT department has decided that it would be a great idea to migrate our email system to GMail. Believe me, I did fight that move, and lost...

I've been using GCalSync (Google Calendar Sync) for 2 years now. Works just fine. Only synchronizes the calendar, but that's all I need to have done.
