I have this really old laptop from an old job that I want to use. What do the experienced think is the best way to reset the administrator password? I could re-install windows. I don't have any of the computer windows disks, and it's a like a 10-year old Dell Lattitude running Windows 97. I do have Windows Vista OS disks for my new Dell XPS. I'm concerned the old laptop won't support Windows Vista.
The other way might be to try a password wiper program. I tried one that said it was free and ended up asking for money to actually wipe the password etc. So any recommendations in this realm would be welcome.
Thank you.

Google for your Windows version and resetting password. There are many tutorials on how to do it, but it varies by Windows version so you need to know what version is on that PC. -
windows 9x hasn't had any security updates in a long time and isn't even recommended for use these days. That old hardware will choke if you try and run a modern windows (winXP might be useable).
your best bet is to try running a version of linux made for older hardware such as Puppy (wary) or AntiX. -
Just a reminder that the forum rules don't allow discussion of bypassing security measures even if you are the owner of the laptop.

I suggest getting a hold of a Win98 install disc or using Linux (Ubuntu)
